It’s that time of year again. As the weather warms and Coloradans begin enjoying the great outdoors, it’s time to prepare for summer storm season. There are many important preparations to be made to protect your home from hail, high winds, and heavy rains. As an experienced local roofing company, Elite Roofing knows a thing or two about the Colorado storm season. When it comes time to batten down the hatches, you want to be sure those hatches are up to the task! So between the barbecues and summer outings, here’s what you can do to protect your home from Colorado’s severe storms and damaging hail.
Hail is one of the biggest causes of property damage in Colorado, and the Denver hail season is especially bad. How can you protect yourself? The first thing to do is make sure your property is prepared to weather the storm. That means inspecting your home before storms hit. Are your windows and doors in good condition? How about your roof?
There are also preventative measures you can take. A roof replacement might seem drastic, but if your roof is nearing the end of its life it might be a good time to upgrade to a sturdier material. Storm shutters can prevent hazardous shattered windows, as well. Finally, if you live in an area prone to hail, make sure your insurance policy includes hail damage.
High winds can also cause damage to homes during the storm season. Much like hail, then, you should take steps to protect your home from wind damage. Removing loose objects from around your home is a good place to start. Sudden winds can pick up debris and cause major damage. Before storms hit, stow items like patio umbrellas, flower pots, and light outdoor furniture.
Another hazard during severe storms is fallen branches. High winds (and even hail!) can cause weak or dead branches to fall on your home, damaging your roof, deck, siding, or other parts of your home’s exterior. Now is the time to take a walk around your property and identify limbs or bushes that need to be trimmed. Cutting them now can help to avoid major damage in a storm and keep your family safe.
Your roof is your home’s first defense against inclement weather. Whether it’s high winds, heavy rain, or hail, your roof is the main barrier between your family home and severe storms. To best protect your home from damaging storms and hail, it’s a good idea to schedule a roof inspection annually. Structural weaknesses, leaks, and loose or missing shingles can all lead to more severe storm damage down the line. Rather than allowing signs of damage and age to go unchecked, taking a proactive approach can potentially save you thousands. A professional roofing contractor will be happy to help you prepare your home for the coming storms!
At Elite Roofing, we’re here to keep your home and your family safe from the Colorado storm season. That’s why we offer free roof inspections to help you protect your home from hail, wind, rain, and everything else Colorado’s storm season has in store! Our roofing professionals have more than a decade of experience repairing and replacing roofs in Denver and throughout the Front Range. Schedule your inspection before the storms hit—contact Elite Roofing today!

Roofing is hardly a new line of work, but sometimes new regulations and requirements can completely reshape the industry. Whether it’s safety requirements or consumer protections, it’s important to stay updated on any new changes to how roofing contractors do business in Denver. At Elite Roofing, our motto is “Roofing Done Right.” On top of integrity and quality service, that also includes staying up to date on key changes in the roofing industry. So, how has roofing in Denver changed over the years, and what does this mean for you? We’re taking a look in today’s blog post!
Wood shake roofs can offer a beautiful, rustic aesthetic for those looking to eschew asphalt shingles. Unfortunately, their wood makeup makes them more of a fire hazard than materials such as clay, slate, and metal. This has resulted in bans on both new wood shake roofs and on major repairs to such roofs in municipalities like Colorado Springs, which implemented such regulations following the 2002 Hayman Fire.
Regulations requiring Class A fire rated roofing systems have been more common in urban areas due to the density of buildings, though there is no outright ban on wood shakes in Denver. Additionally, there are county-level restrictions on wood shake roofs as well, such as in Boulder and Douglas Counties. If you’re looking to repair or replace your wood shake roof in or near Denver, professional roofing contractors will be able to tell you what options are available in your area.
While the roofing industry has improved somewhat over the years, the unfortunate reality is that there are still many roofing scams to watch out for these days. To protect homeowners, a 2012 Colorado state law (the Consumer Protection/Residential Roofing Act) implemented several measures intended to thwart shady roofers. Included among these was a requirement for a detailed written contract between homeowner and roofer. The details required in any contract between Denver roofing contractors and residents include the following:
You can view the complete “Roofing Bill of Rights” on the Colorado Roofing Association website.
It’s not uncommon for roofing companies to offer promotions in an effort to edge out the competition. This is just part of doing business in any industry, and roofing is no exception. That said, exercise extreme caution if you find Denver roofing contractors offering to waive your insurance deductible. Waiving your deductible might sound like a win-win, allowing you to save money on repairs to your roof, but the practice is illegal in Colorado—and you can be held liable if you take a roofer up on the offer. Notably, it’s also illegal to advertise such offers. So, if you find roofing contractors who are offering to waive insurance deductibles for Denver homeowners, avoid them and report their shady practices.
The roofing industry in Denver has changed a great deal over the past two decades, and at Elite Roofing, we feel these changes have largely been for the better. We pride ourselves on our integrity and top-quality workmanship. Because of that, we’re thankful for the consumer protections that give Colorado homeowners a much easier time finding reputable roofers like us. If you’re looking for skilled, experienced roofing contractors with integrity here in Denver, contact our team at Elite Roofing today! We’ll show you what Roofing Done Right truly means.
Much like adding fresh paint or siding, replacing your roof with new shingles can do a lot to make your home look new again. Shingle colors tend to fade over time, and a newly shingled roof will really make your home stand out. This can also be a great opportunity to change the character of your home with a new color scheme. But with so many shingles colors to choose from, how do you pick the right one for your home’s roof? At Elite Roofing, our expert roofers always enjoy helping homeowners decide on a look they’ll love that also works well for their home. To help you narrow down options for yourself, here are a few important considerations when it comes to deciding on shingle colors for your residential roofing needs.
Answering the question of how to pick a roof color starts with considering your shingles in the context of other aspects of your home. These other aspects include siding, trim, and accents such as masonry. Certain colors go better together than others; for example, while black shingles go with pretty much anything, roof shingle colors like blue or green might clash with a red house.
It’s also important to consider whether blends and variations make sense for your roof. Certain sets of shingles will blend several tones or colors together in an appealing way. However, if your home already has a great deal of color variation, additional patterns may make your home look too busy—a bit like wearing stripes with plaid or polka dots. Companies like Owens Corning offer helpful color visualization tools to help you “try on” different shingles for your house. Check theirs out here.
Sad though it may be, sometimes certain colors of roof shingle simply aren’t available in a particular area. This can be for any number of reasons, and such as the relative locations of certain manufacturers and the overall demand for particular shingle varieties. While it may be possible to ship otherwise unavailable colors to you, this can get expensive, so it’s generally best to choose from more readily available shingles.
Depending on where you live, you may be subject to certain restrictions regarding the colors of shingles you can use for your roof. We think it’s great when people want to really make their home stand out. However, it’s important to first look through relative homeowners’ association bylaws or any other ordinances and documents that may rule out certain colors. Within those restrictions, you should also consider the size of your home and how you want your shingles to affect people’s perception of it. That’s because darker roof shingle colors can make your home look smaller, while lighter colors can really add to the volume of your home. Some homeowners don’t care much either way, but for others that can mean a great deal!
Speaking of light and dark, the color of your roof really does matter when it comes to energy efficiency. If your energy bills tend to soar during the summer, a lighter roof color might not be a bad idea. Opting for lighter-colored shingles can help reflect sunlight and heat away from your home, reducing your air conditioning costs. Certain manufacturers even offer specialized cool roof shingle options for greater energy benefits. If heating bills are more of a concern, you might consider a darker roof instead to help your home absorb heat during the winter.

While installing a high-quality roof is certainly serious business, that doesn’t mean the roofing industry is without its share of funny stories and oddities. At Elite Roofing, we’ve seen a thing or two over the course of our roofing work. We wanted to share some of the best roofing stories we’ve read from all over the internet. Some are funny, some are strange, and pretty much all of them have something folks can learn about how to get the best roofing for their home. Let’s get started!
On Roofing.com, a forum for roofers, a user talks about an encounter with a homeowner whose roof had been installed by an out-of-town storm chaser. Around 40 or 50 shingles had blown off the poor homeowner’s roof during a recent storm, despite the fact that the roof had been installed a mere six months ago. The shingles were improperly nailed down, and no felt had been installed underneath the shingles. The roofer then asked if the same company had worked on the roofs of two homes across the street, and the homeowner said yes. So how did he know? Because that home was missing more than 40 shingles too!
The lesson: We often talk about the importance of avoiding storm chasing roofers—and this is why! When you’re looking for the best roofing company, be sure to hire a local roofer with a solid reputation who will stand by their work.
On another forum, an amateur roofer talks about a time where he tried to get a jump-start on his roofing repairs by heading up to his roof at the crack of dawn. The night before, he had removed some old shingles before realizing he’d also have to replace the decking, so he left a tarp over the exposed area. In the morning, he stepped on the tarp to move the bundle of shingles he’d used to weigh it down—and started sliding down the roof on the tarp! The user describes it as “like standing on a Crazy Carpet on an ice hill.” Luckily, he managed to stop himself before running out of roof.
The lesson: Falling off a roof is surprisingly common, and that risk only increases for amateur roofers. Avoid working on frosty roofs, and move carefully whenever doing a roof repair. And, if you’re ever unsure of your ability to repair your roof yourself, contact a professional roofer to do the job for you.
Roofers in Florida work in a very different environment from those of us in Colorado. Rather than facing down regular hail storms, they must deal with frequent heavy rains and hurricane-force winds. But whether you’re in Miami or Denver, quality and attention to detail always matter. A Miami roofer, who goes by Roofer Mike, has a handful of great roofing stories on his blog. In one of them, a perfectly normal-looking cedar shake roof turns out to be anything but—because the cut-price roofers who installed the cedar shakes put nails through the home’s vaulted ceilings! Not surprisingly, the roof leaked terribly and had to be replaced.
The lesson: All of the Roofer Mike stories are good reads. But the cedar shake story shows why there’s so much more to picking the best roofing company than opting for the lowest rates. The best roofing companies will take the time to note the details and nuances of every home they work on, and that especially includes exposed ceilings.
Every so often, there’s a story about something winding up on a roof that was definitely not supposed to be there. Last year, in Detroit, that something was an 8-year-old, 18-foot-long reticulated python named Juliet, according to a story from Fox 2 News. The owner supposed that he must not have locked Juliet’s cage properly, and she made a break for it. Maybe she was coming down from her balcony to meet Romeo?
The lesson: Do everyone a favor: Keep your snakes locked up tight when roofers show up to inspect or repair your roof!
We love our work here at Elite Roofing, and a big part of that is you never know what to expect from one roofing project to the next. And while we’ve yet to see any roof snakes to this point, our years of experience have prepared us for anything we might run into as Denver roofers. Whether you’re in need of an inspection or major repairs, our professional roofing team can help you out. Contact us today to find out how Elite Roofing offers the best roofing solutions for your needs!
When it comes time to repair or replace your roof, there are many questions to answer before getting started. Possibly the most important question of all being, “what roofing material will work best for my project?” We’ve been asked this question thousands of times at Elite Roofing, and the reason is clear: there are numerous types of roofing materials, each with distinct advantages, purposes, and looks. Because of this incredible variety, choosing the perfect roofing material can be tricky—but there are a few key considerations that will help narrow things down. Here’s how to pick the right type of roofing material for your next roofing project!
Before diving into the factors that go into this roofing decision, it’s good to have an idea of what your options are. Common types of roofing materials include:
· Asphalt shingles – Cost-effective, but with a shorter lifespan (20-30 years) than more durable materials.
· Slate – Very pricy, but incredibly durable. Slate also cuts a stunning profile for those looking to beautify their home.
· Ceramic tile – Also pricy and durable. Has a distinct Mediterranean look.
· Metal – Highly durable, but also cost-effective. Popular for industrial and agricultural buildings, but has gained traction for homes as well.
· Fakes – Synthetic versions of common roofing materials. These tend to either be cheaper (as with fake slate) or make up for drawbacks (as with fake wood, which is fire-resistant).
Depending on the roof you’re replacing, you may be limited in terms of which materials you can use. For instance, the pitch of your roof and the existing supports in place will play a role in your decision. Steeply pitched roofs can only support certain materials, while other materials (such as slate) require a greater deal of existing support due to their weight. Be sure to consult with a professional roofing company to see which types of roofing materials will be viable.
In other words, consider how long you’ll be staying under the roof you plan to build, repair, or replace. A solid roof with a highly durable material will last for decades, but if your family is likely to move in the next few years this may not be worth the investment. On the other hand, a more expensive and sturdy material may end up being cheaper in the long run if you plan to stick around.
No matter where you live, there’s always something that can negatively impact the lifespan of your roof. Homeowners in dry climates should consider fire resistance, while those in wetter areas should consider materials that stave off mold and algae. For Colorado homeowners—well, let’s just say durability goes a long way with the extreme weather in our area. Be sure to consider risks on the small-scale level, too. Storms may not be a major factor for you, but tree branches hanging over your home might be.
Depending on where you live, your decision on which roofing material to use for your roofing project may have been made for you. Certain cities and regions may require certain types of roofing materials to be used for any roofing projects. Areas prone to fires, for instance, may forbid the use of wood shakes and shingles. There may also be building restrictions in your community that dictate which materials can be used to maintain a distinct aesthetic. Be sure to check with the relevant building departments before getting started on your roofing project.
While this list is nowhere near complete, thinking about these factors will undoubtedly help you narrow down the types of roofing materials you’re considering for your roofing project. Once you have the shortlist, contact us at Elite Roofing to start putting your project in motion! From tile to metal to asphalt shingles and wood shakes, we’ve worked with just about any roofing material you can think of. This hands-on experience means we have the know-how to help you pick the perfect material for your roofing project—and install it right!

As we begin planning for 2020, we are compelled to look back at all that we have accomplished in 2019. And who better to help us do this than our new CEO Brie Reis. Let’s take a look at where we’ve come and where we’re headed from Brie’s perspective:
Brie stepped in as CEO in February of 2019. When asked what stands out to her, Brie first pointed to Elite Roofing being named to the 2019 Inc. 5000 List of the Fastest-Growing Private Companies in America, for the second year in a row; in addition to making the Denver Business Journal 2019 Fast 50. 2019 also marked the year we became completely paperless and our first remote employee began working from home, both accomplishments which are helping reduce our carbon footprint as an organization.
Not having any major storms proved to be a challenge and an opportunity for the Elite team. While this made our traditional ‘busy season’ a bit less hectic, it also gave us an opportunity to come together as a team and make strategic adjustments. We were able to use this time to instead finetune our processes and become healthier as an organization. As a result, even with no major storm activity, we were able to sustain our revenue in a year that many area roofers were forced out of business.
In 2020 we will be heavily focused on growing our commercial and service departments. While these have always been areas of focus, residential roofing has been our largest. However, in 2020, we aim to leverage our extensive experience and proven SOPs to also dominate the local market in commercial and roofing service solutions.
In addition to our goals as an organization, Brie aims to help our team grow on a personal level. She plans to continue to find new ways to strengthen Elite by encouraging value and self-worth within our team members.
While providing unparalleled customer service has always been a core value here at Elite, we are continuously looking for new ways to improve things. As we look to 2020, Brie plans to continue to identify new ways to mitigate technical issues and simplify the customer experience. In addition, we will be dividing our sales department during the busy season to better focus and serve our customers’ needs.
Giving back is a cornerstone of the Elite brand and has been since we opened our doors in 2006. In 2020, we will continue to identify and fill needs within the community. In addition, we will continue to give to the causes that are near and dear to us including our annual Turkey Drive, Toys for Tots, Back to School programs, Habitat for Humanity and our $100 donations for every new roof we install.
With so much to be thankful for and so much to look forward to, all of us at Elite could not be more excited to kick off 2020. On behalf of all of us here at Elite, we would like to express our sincerest gratitude for your support and wish you a wonderful and prosperous New Year!

With the holiday season fast approaching, it’s time to deck the halls – and for many, it’s time to deck the roof, too. But while our team at Elite Roofing loves seeing all the spectacular and creative things folks do with roof decorations, we also know decorating your roof can be dangerous. In emergency rooms across the United States, thousands of people are treated every year for decoration-related injuries – yes, really! So today, we’re sharing a handful of decoration safety-related roofing tips to make sure your holiday season is both decked out and safe.
Safe holiday decorating starts on the ground. It’s always a bummer when you find out that lights aren’t working properly, but it’s even worse if you’ve gotten all the way up to your roof before making this discovery. Untangling strings of lights and replacing faulty bulbs is also much easier – and safer – with your feet placed firmly on ground. Make sure you check all cords, outlets, and power sources before getting started.
You should also prepare yourself before heading up to the roof. Get a solid pair of rubber-soled shoes for more traction and wear a tool belt to store all your decorating essentials. Nix the nails, too – clips and magnetic hangers are a much better (and less permanent) way to hang up holiday lights and other decor.
Climbing ladders and walking around on your roof is risky even in the best weather conditions, and you definitely don’t want to be up there when it’s windy, rainy, snowing or worse. Wait for a clear day to put up decorations and start when the sun is shining bright. Sure, you’ll want to see what all the lights look like at night, but it’s important to have as much light as possible while decorating so you can see what you’re doing.
One of the first roofing tips we give anyone is to know how to use a ladder properly. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has a solid guide to ladder safety that’s a must-read for everyone. A few of the most important tips include:
Keeping your roof and gutters clean is among the most important roofing tips at any time of the year, but it’s an especially good idea before you decorate your roof. For one thing, a cluttered roof can detract from your holiday decorations. More importantly, though, a roof covered in wet leaves and debris makes for a dangerous surface to be working with – or walking on. It’s also important to clear your gutters before winter in general, as clogged gutters are a recipe for hazardous ice dams forming on your roof.
Finally, as with any DIY-related activity, it’s important to know your limits when it comes to decorating for the holidays. Only walk on your roof if you’ve done it before. When in doubt, move your ladder rather than leaning over to reach a spot on your roof. In short: Don’t try to do too much. Your home will still look great, and you’ll enjoy a safe, injury-free holiday.
Our family at Elite Roofing loves the holidays, especially when it’s time to deck out our rooflines with colorful lights and holiday figures. But we also want our readers to know that safety is paramount when it comes to having a joyous holiday, and that starts with how you decorate. If you need help with a roof repair or cleaning, or if you’re simply looking for some roofing safety tips, give our team at Elite Roofing a call – we’re here to help! And for more roofing tips and advice, follow us on our social media channels: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. We hope you have a wonderful holiday season!
Getting your roof repaired or replaced is a major project. On average, to replace your roof, you can expect to pay anywhere from $5,000–$10,000 – depending on the size of the job. With such a significant investment, choosing the right contractor is the key to making sure the work is completed efficiently and lasts many years into the future.
With no shortage of roofing companies in most areas, it can be hard to pick the right one. Many offer their own guarantees and payment plans, and chances are you’ll get a wide range of quotes and bids from each contractor. Roofing companies often tend to make similar claims when it comes to workmanship and quality, but the truth of the matter is all roofing companies are not created equal. So how can you be sure you’re hiring the right roofing company for the job? At Elite Roofing, we understand that choosing a roofing contractor can be difficult, but as professionals in the industry, we have insider knowledge that can help make your decision easier. So today, we’re offering a thorough guide on how to evaluate each company and bid – so you can be confident in your new roof for years to come.
When it comes to hiring a contractor, in any industry, trust is paramount. That’s especially true for roofing companies. When beginning your search for the right contractor to work on your roof, the first step is to get to know each company’s reputation, values, and personality.
It’s important to consider local roofing companies first and foremost. There are a few different reasons for this, but the first is accessibility. If anything happens to your new roof down the line, it’s far easier to re-hire a local company to do the repairs than to reconnect with a roofing company from miles away. Also, it tends to be easier to learn about local companies firsthand than it is for one farther away. You can ask neighbors for recommendations and check out their work in your community. And as a final, practical benefit, it’s generally cheaper to hire a local roofing company as they won’t have to bill you as much for transportation costs.
Generally, you’ll want to hire an experienced contractor when making a major investment in a new roof or a roof repair. It’s true that all roofing companies start somewhere, of course, but opting for a more experienced contractor helps you rest easy that they can do the job and do it right – as they’ve done it many times before. Experienced companies also have more of a track record, which makes it easier for you to…
Every company makes big claims about the quality of their work – this is true no matter what industry you’re researching. So, just like with any other industry, reading through reviews is essential for determining which companies standout from the competition. This is also a good time to check that they’ve done work similar to what you need. Some roofing companies are more specialized than others – and while this is great news for the right customer, you may not want to hire a roofing company whose work is 90% commercial for your residential roofing project.
This last one is simple, but vital for building trust with a roofing contractor: how communicative are these roofing companies? If you’ve had trouble getting some contractors to answer your emails and follow up on phone calls, this is a major red flag. If they’re unresponsive before work has even started, what happens if a problem arises during the project? And will you be able to get in touch with them weeks later if you need further support? A professional roofing company is a communicative one – listen to your gut if you’re unhappy with the response time from a contractor, it’s best to explore other options.
Once you’ve picked out a few local, trustworthy companies, it’s time to start getting quotes and going through the details. What should you look out for at this stage? Here are a few things.
For every bid you receive from a roofing contractor, there will be a price tag attached. But it’s a mistake to just pick the cheapest one. You instead need to take a close look at each bid, and follow up if necessary. Sometimes a low price is disguising hidden fees – if they’ve estimated the labor costs only, for instance, but not the cost of roofing materials. Don’t immediately dismiss higher bids, either. The pricier roofing companies may have a good reason for quoting a high figure. For example, if they have much more experience than the competition, or if they’re including factors in the price that other companies are trying to hide. It’s important to stay within your budget, but make sure to take a close look at the bids you receive and examine them beyond the total dollar figure. Ask about payment plans and roof financing, as well. Many roofing companies offer multiple options to pay for your roof.
Whether it’s due to a greater amount of skill or a larger team, some roofing companies are faster than others. Be sure to ask each contractor for an estimate of the time it will take them to complete your roofing project. You’ll be glad you checked in with each company to make sure your family won’t be left with an incomplete roof to keep out inclement weather and/or the winter chill
It’s no secret that roofing can be a dangerous endeavor – that’s why we always advise people to leave roof repairs to the professionals. But it’s also a good idea to ask each contractor you consider about the safety measures they take, along with licensing and insurance. Sadly, we’ve heard stories of some companies trying to cut costs by forgoing necessary credentials – and leaving homeowners with the bill in the event of an injury on their property. Double-check with each company you talk to and make sure they’ve got the licensing to protect both your family and their crews.
So, you’ve found reputable companies, gotten a handful of quotes, and are now you’re trying to decide between a few finalist roofing companies. How do you make the final decision? It might come down to their answers to some specific questions, such as…
It’s unfortunate, but it’s a reality: some roofing companies don’t send their own workers when it comes time to get started with a roofing project. They get hired for the job, then outsource the work to third parties you’ve never spoken to previously. This can also affect manufacturer’s warranties that are only available to those who hire roofers who are qualified installers of your preferred material. So before making your final decision, confirm with each company who they’ll be sending to properly complete the work.
With any home improvement project, mistakes and complications are almost expected, even with reputable companies. The difference-maker here is how these companies deal with problems. Whether it’s accidental damage to some part of your home or a surprise hidden underneath your old roof, experienced roofing companies should have a plan for every contingency. Be sure to ask each contractor what their strategy is for dealing with such complications. Will they consult you before proceeding, or fix the problem and surprise you with the bill later? Professional roofing companies should be prepared to either pay to correct or repair any errors caused by their own crews and be prepared to clue you in should they discover any existing issues.
To this point, you’ve probably received a lot of verbal promises – but the best roofing companies back up their words and stand behind their work with a guarantee. Ask each roofer for the details of any guarantee or warranty they offer. Follow that up with questions about manufacturer’s warranties as well to make sure that your roof is covered for years to come.
At Elite Roofing, we’ve worked with countless homeowners and businesses to help them decide on the best plan for their roofing projects. While we understand we’re not the only option when it comes to roofing companies, our team is proud to be leaders in our industry, and we always prioritize professionalism, communication, and craftsmanship. In the spirit of Halloween, we thought we would share some of our biggest fears as roofers. While it takes a lot to spook us, there are times that even our most experienced roofers have to face their fears while on the job site. Let’s take a look at our biggest fears at your trusted Colorado roofers!
Scaling roofs is simply part of our job here at Elite. While the vast majority of the roofs we repair and replace are standard pitch or low slope, we do occasionally encounter an extreme steep slope roof. As highly experienced roofers, it’s nothing we can’t handle, but it certainly leaves our crews feeling more than a little spooked.
As roofers, our ability to be productive is very much weather dependent. Severe weather can hold jobs up and pose safety threats. While we watch weather reports closely, particularly during storm season here in the Rockies, there are times that unexpected weather patterns take our crews by surprise. In these cases, we take measures as quickly as possible to protect our crews as well as your property. One thing is for sure, nothing is quite as frightening as being on a roof when lightning strikes nearby!
The risk involved in climbing on a roof is extremely high, particularly to those who are inexperience in safety protocol. Hearing from homeowners who have taken it upon themselves to assess their roof damage up close is always scary. Do us a favor and leave the roof inspections to the professionals!
There is nothing worse than completing an inspection on a roof that has only sustained minor damage to find that low quality roofing materials were used when installing the roof. In these cases, we have to recommend a complete replacement when a repair would otherwise would have been an option. Talk about a freight to the homeowner! This is why we only offer the highest quality materials here at Elite.
Yet another fear of your trusted roofers is poor craftsmanship. We never like to inspect a roof that was installed improperly or lackadaisically. This is again a frightful situation, as we have to deliver bad news to the property owner. Hence why it’s so important to hire a roofing company with a trusted track record in your community who also offers a workmanship warranty.
On behalf of the entire Elite Family, we would like to wish you and your little ghosts and goblins a Happy Halloween! Stay safe out there and remember, if you ever suspect that your roof has sustained damage, leave the inspection to us! At Elite Roofing, we proud to offer free, no-obligation roofing inspections, so there is no need to take on the scary task of climbing on your roof.
As your trusted local roofers, we are here to help you through every step of the roof repair or replacement process. From initial inspection to interfacing with your insurance company, to completing your repair or replacement, we’ve got you covered!
If your roof is damaged, it’s important to get it repaired right away, especially with Colorado’s winter weather fast approaching. Depending on the extent of the damage, however, it can be rather costly to repair. Financing a roof repair or replacement with emergency savings isn’t possible for many homeowners and paying with a credit card can be a risky alternative. At Elite Roofing, one of our top priorities is making sure our customers know about all the options available to them when it comes to roofing projects, and that especially includes financing a roof repair. So today, we’re talking about three solid roof financing options to consider if you’re in need of a major roof repair or replacement.
One route for financing your roof repair or replacement is through a home equity line of credit. If you’ve built a fair amount of equity in your home – that is, if you’ve paid a substantial part of your mortgage – a home equity loan can be a cost-effective option. You’ll be able to borrow up to a certain portion of the equity you’ve built, and you’ll usually get more reasonable interest rates along with longer repayment periods than with a personal loan. The risk here, however, is that your home’s equity is used as collateral – so if you fall behind on payments, there can be steep consequences.
Another kind of loan for financing your roof is a personal loan. Typically, you could borrow far more than you would need for your repair, through a bank, credit union, or other financial institution. This doesn’t require any kind of collateral, but the primary drawback is that these loans tend to be short-term (most must be paid off within 2-5 years) and carry high interest rates, leading to much higher monthly payments. Still, if you can reliably make the payments on a personal loan, this can be a viable roof financing option.
Many professional roofing companies partner with reputable lenders to make financing major roofing projects simpler. Payments can be spread out over several months or even years, and while interest is often charged, these rates tend to be lower than a home equity or personal loan, especially if their payment plans include a partnership with an FHA Title I lender. As with all loans, it’s important to make sure you’re comfortable with the monthly payments you’ll be making, so be sure to talk to your roofing company about their roof financing options before work begins.
At Elite Roofing, we understand that many roof repair jobs can be too expensive to finance out of pocket. Our team at Elite has made taking care of families our number one priority, so we’re proud to offer flexible roof financing options through our partner, a nationally licensed FHA Title I lender and sales financing company. Financing options include deferred payment plans, low monthly payments, and no payments or interest for the first six months. If your roof is in need of a major repair, contact us today! Our professional roofers have you covered, and our professional roof financing partner is here to help you – and your wallet – breathe easier.
While tile roofing has typically been reserved for those in other regions, Colorado homeowners have increasingly opted for tile due to its longevity and durability. The aesthetic benefit of tile is also undeniable: while asphalt roofs mainly vary in color, tile roofs come in a myriad shapes, sizes, colors, and more, enabling homeowners to transform their roof into a beautiful architectural focal point.
At Elite Roofing, we often have customers ask about tile roofing options, and the first question tends to be about cost. As all professional Denver roofing companies will tell you, though, this can be a complicated matter with tile, as a great number of variables determine the total cost of a tile roof. So, if you’re considering a new tile roof for your home, or if you’re looking to replace your existing tile roof, here’s a rundown of the different cost factors to consider.
The biggest factor in determining the overall cost of a tile roof is the material from which the tiles are crafted. Concrete tiles tend to be the cheapest overall, at anywhere from $4 to $9 per square foot, and concrete is generally lighter weight than other tile materials. Clay ranges from $5 to $10 per square foot, and it’s a material that can be beautifully molded into many different tile shapes. The most expensive material is terracotta, at $6 to $15 per square foot. This is also the most durable however, and unlike concrete and clay, terracotta tiles don’t change color over time. As a rule of thumb, tweaking and customizing the shape of your roof tiles will increase the price further. Still, there are many pros and cons to each material beyond cost, so it’s important to discuss your project with a trusted Denver roofing company before making any decisions.
For a select few skilled homeowners, it may be possible to install your own tile roof. However, tile tends to be among the trickiest materials to work with, meaning it’s nearly always best to leave installation to one of the many professional roofing companies in Denver. As a baseline, expect to pay around $7 or $8 per square foot to have a tile roof installed. You may also see this price quoted in “squares,” a unit equal to 100 square feet that many roofers prefer to deal in for simplicity’s sake ($7 to $8 per square foot = $700 to $800 per square). The average roof tends to be about 22-26 squares in size.
From these baselines, many other factors play a role in the cost of installing a tile roof. Roofing companies in Denver may include some of these in the overall installation cost quoted to you, but it’s important to make sure of this before deciding which company to hire.
Removal of old roof – This is typically the first step in the installation process, and the cost can vary depending on how much material there is to remove. For instance, some roofs on older buildings may have been layered over an existing roof, making it more expensive to remove.
Underlayment – In addition to the tiles themselves, installing a tile roof also includes the material directly beneath the tiles that adds stability, called the underlayment. If you’re replacing an existing tile roof, the cost of installing the underlayment may be reduced.
Roof supports – Tile roofs are heavier than other roof types. While this makes them quite durable and weather-resistant, it can also necessitate adding more support to your roof to ensure the frame of your home can support this heavier material.
Delivery and travel – Since tile is a heavy material, the cost of transporting and delivering it to your home may be greatly increased if you live far from the supplier or roofing company.
While the upfront cost of installing a tile roof can be steep, the unparalleled durability of this material means a tile roof easily pays for itself over the course of its long lifetime. The incredible customizability of tile can’t be beat, and our professional team at Elite Roofing has worked on a wide range of gorgeous tile roofs over the years. If you want to learn more about tile roofs or start planning your own tile roofing project, contact us today! We’re proud to be the roofing company that many Denver homeowners have trusted to turn their roofs into true works of art.

We love talking shop at Elite Roofing. Part of that comes from a passion for our industry and what we do, but we also feel it’s important to keep our customers educated about the products available for their roofing needs. For example, our Elite Roofing family loves working with the innovative and reliable products offered by Owens Corning – and we’re proud to be an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor. Roof maintenance is a crucial part of making sure your home is ready to withstand Colorado’s tempestuous climate, and that applies year-round. But at Elite Roofing, we see fall as an especially important time for roof maintenance. During fall months, milder weather makes for optimum conditions for working on roofing projects. Also, fall marks the last chance during the year to shore up your roof before brutal winter weather sets in – weather that can exacerbate moderate roof damage, creating much more challenging problems. So as the weather cools and Halloween approaches, here are a few important roof maintenance tips to keep in mind for this fall.
Autumn is a beautiful season, as trees put on a gorgeous and colorful show before finally dropping their leaves as the cold weather sets in. When you rake fallen leaves from your yard, though, don’t forget that they come to rest in more places than just your lawn.
Yes, fall is gutter-cleaning season, as allowing shed leaves to remain in your gutters will prevent rainwater from draining off your roof properly. This buildup of water is irritating in the fall – but dangerous in the winter, as cluttered gutters can cause melting snow and ice to form ice dams. These dams can cause serious injuries when they ultimately plummet from your roof, so don’t overlook cleaning your gutters as a key fall roof maintenance tip.
Winter is also a season rife with fallen branches, as high winds and ice storms cause immense strain for the trees around your home. While many fallen branches will wind up in your yard, take some time in the fall to check for any branches hanging over your roof, your fence, and other things that could be seriously damaged if they were to fall. Take particular note of branches that are dead or otherwise weakened, as these are sure to come down sooner rather than later. Trimming high-risk branches during the fall will drastically reduce the risk of your roof being damaged by debris during winter storms.
Another important roof maintenance tip for the fall is to thoroughly inspect your roof before winter arrives in full force. As mentioned above, fall is both the optimal time to schedule needed repairs and, in many cases, the last chance to complete repairs until spring arrives again. While you may not see any obvious damage from the ground, only a thorough inspection by a professional roofer can ensure that no problems have arisen during the summer.
If your roof has sustained damage, now is the time to address it, even if the issues are relatively small. Winter is a time of year when minor damage is compounded, as the extreme weather batters your roof and the constant freezing and thawing of ice widens existing cracks and crevices. What’s more, fall is a great time for roof repairs, as the cooler weather makes for more optimal working conditions than the heat of summer. Many Colorado roofing companies fill up their calendars during the fall – so be sure to get your roof on their schedule while you still can.
For the Elite Roofing family, fall roof maintenance is about more than a handful of tips – it’s about the peace of mind you can only get from knowing that your home is ready for winter, from top to bottom. That starts with keeping your roof and gutters clear of debris and checking regularly for damage, especially before winter arrives. To stay on top of things, request your free roof inspection today! Let us make sure your roof is ready to stand up to the looming Colorado winter.

With spring and summer come severe weather and hailstorms – and with hailstorms comes potentially severe hail damage to your roof. In 2018, some 4,611 storms produced hail in the United States, a figure that has already been surpassed in 2019, according to the National Weather Service.
However, not every hailstorm is created equally. Some storms produce softball-sized chunks of ice that wreak havoc on anything exposed to the elements, while other storms drop only tiny hailstones that do little more than make a lot of noise. Following these severe storms, it’s important to determine whether your roof has been damaged by hail, as this damage can result in leaks and other complications that can dramatically decrease the lifespan of your roof.
It’s often difficult to tell how strong a hailstorm is or was from indoors, and the strength of such a storm can literally make or break your roof. So today, we’re sharing a complete guide to hail damage to your roof. Below, you’ll find everything you need to know about how to check for roof hail damage, how much hail damage warrants replacing or repairing your roof, and when and how to file an insurance claim so your family and livelihood is fairly covered and compensated. Let’s get started!
As with all property damage, there is a limited amount of time to file an insurance claim for hail damage to your roof. We’ll go into more detail on insurance claims a bit later. Since time is of the essence, it’s important that you check for damage and, if necessary, schedule a professional inspection immediately following a hailstorm.
There are a few things you can take note of early on that may give you an idea of how much damage your roof has sustained. One smart move is to pay attention to any descriptions of hailstones you find in weather reports both during and after a severe storm. Large hail is often more destructive, though this isn’t the only metric that factors into how much damage hail leaves behind. In some ways, density is even more important than size, and the density of a hailstone can be estimated from its color. For instance, cloudy hailstones are full of air molecules and therefore less dense. Clearer hailstones, however, are denser pieces of solid ice that pack much more destructive power. Additionally, factors like the age of your roof, its slope, and the materials used in its construction play a role in how much hail damage your roof can reasonably sustain.
So, while most roofs won’t need a close inspection following pea-sized, cloudy hail; larger and denser hailstones signify that you should check more closely for damage after the storm has passed.
To begin with, the most important piece of advice when assessing hail damage to your roof is to leave up-close inspections to the experts. Climbing onto your roof is inadvisable under ordinary circumstances, if you aren’t experienced. That risk only increases when your roof may have sustained damage during the most recent storm.
With this in mind, professionals with experience climbing ladders will be able to identify signs of hail damage on a roof quite readily. Hail impacting shingles and roof tiles can dent and chip away at these materials, so any cracks or obvious surface damage is a sign that your roof has sustained damage. Loss of protective granules is a common result of hailstorms hitting asphalt roofs, while exposure of or damage to the underlying fiberglass mat suggests more severe damage. Checking for debris is also a good idea, as scattered pieces of roofing material are a telltale sign that your roof has sustained significant damage. In extreme cases, shingles may have even come loose entirely.
The good news is you can check for damage to your roof without having to get on a ladder.
Here are the signs to look for from ground level that can clue you in and prompt you to schedule a roof hail damage inspection. Any part of your home’s exterior may hold clues as to how damaging the most recent hailstorm was. If your gutters and downspouts are dented, siding is loose or broken, or decks and fencing have been damaged, your roof has likely been damaged as well. Further, check the ground around your home for pieces of shingles or other roofing debris, as this is a dead giveaway for hail damage to your roof.
While insurance companies vary greatly in terms of their coverage, they will only cover hail damage to your roof if a claim is filed within a certain window of time. The size of this window to file a claim depends on both the insurance provider and the specific policy, but in every case, timing is critical in ensuring coverage.
The extent of hail damage required to warrant repairs or a roof replacement also varies. In general, insurance companies will want to see evidence of a certain number of hits (i.e., clear dents or missing asphalt) within a particular area on multiple sides of the roof – for example, 10+ hits within a 10×10 area on two sides of your roof. In short, the density of hail damage needs to meet the standards of your insurance policy in order to warrant coverage.
However, insurance companies typically differentiate between ‘functional’ and ‘cosmetic’ damage as well. Insurance companies will often only cover functional roof damage and not cover damage that their assessors determine to be purely cosmetic in nature. Because of the specific standards and the short window of time for filing an insurance claim, it’s important to schedule a professional roofing inspection promptly following a hailstorm during should you suspect your
roof may have sustained hail damage. Then, if your professional roofing inspector believes the hail damage to your roof is substantial enough to warrant filing an insurance claim, you may be able to have your roof repaired or replaced for the mere cost of your insurance deductible.
Coverage for roof replacement or repair services is ultimately up to your insurance company. However, if you’re paying out of pocket, it’s important to consider the risks and benefits of repairing versus completely replacing your roof.
There are certain clear-cut cases in which you should replace a damaged roof. If damage to your roof is widespread or your roof begins leaking as a result of storm damage, this is cause for taking such action. In the case of less extensive damage, sometimes a simple repair can add years to the lifespan of your roof, staving off a much more costly replacement.
Cases that fall somewhere in the middle are typically the trickiest to navigate. Depending on the age of your roof and the extent of the hail damage it has sustained, repairing your roof may be costlier in the long run than replacing it outright. Doing nothing can also be costly, as minor hail damage becomes a major problem for your roof if water and other elements begin seeping into the small chips and divots that hail can leave behind. Water and ice damage can wreak havoc on roofs very quickly, so even minor hail damage today should be considered for repairs.
To aid in this difficult decision, a licensed roofing expert can help you determine the extent of hail damage to your roof and identify other signs of roof deterioration. With this information, you can be confident that you’re making the most cost-effective decision for your home, your family and/or your business.
Understanding roof hail damage and assessing its severity is an important skill – not just for roofing experts and project managers, but for homeowners as well. Knowing what to look for and having a grasp of when to hire a professional to fully evaluate storm damage to your roof are vital to getting the most out of your insurance coverage. Additionally, sometimes it’s all too obvious that your roof is in need of repairs, and this helps you get a jump-start on filing a claim and scheduling repairs. Severe storms can be frightening and costly. But with the right knowledge, you can be confident and secure in the knowledge that you’ll be fairly covered and compensated for any hail damage to your roof.
Time for a roofing inspection? Contact a trusted roofer in your area to schedule a professional inspection. Not sure where to begin? Ask friends and loved ones for referrals, research online reviews with Yelp, the BBB and Google. You’re sure to find a reputable roofing company willing to complete a complimentary roofing inspection and help you explore your options.
It doesn’t get much better than springtime in the Rockies. As we all thaw out from the winter and begin planning for our favorite summer activities, we also need to start preparing for Colorado’s infamous storm season. With it comes beautiful lightning shows, major rain falls, gale-force winds and even heavy hail storms.
The first major storm of 2019 hit the Front Range on the evening of June 8, packing a major punch and leaving a lot of damage in its wake. While we have experienced small hail and wind storms already this year, Saturday storm was by far the biggest. Tennis ball sized hail was reported around 7:15 pm, just 3 miles from the heart of Castle Rock. In addition to the Castle Rock hail damage, Henderson, Lafayette, Brighton and other Northern Denver suburbs were also hit with major hail damage.
Was your property hit by Saturday’s storm? If so, chances are, you sustained at least some degree of damage. The good news is however, minor hail or wind damage is not always indicative of the need of repairs. While we always recommend leaving roof hail damage inspections to the professionals, there are some signs you can look for from a safe vantage point on the ground. We encourage you to walk the perimeter of your property and to check for signs of hail or wind damage, not only to your roof but, to your vehicles, windows, siding and other vulnerable areas. When observing your roof, look for the following:
If you see any of these signs, it’s a good idea to contact a Castle Rock roofing company to schedule a professional inspection.
One major mistake homeowners makes is not acting quickly after sustaining storm damage. This is a concern for several reasons:
Depending on your insurance coverage, you have a specific amount of time in which you can make an insurance claim following an incident. While this grace period will differ from provider to provider and policy to policy, you have a predetermined amount of time to make your claim. Putting things off can place you in danger of not being able to file a claim.
In addition, by allowing your Castle Rock hail damage to remain unaddressed, you run the risk of having a larger problem on your hands in the future. Erosion of shingle damage can continue, causing a compounding problem. A small leak today can become larger water damage in just a matter of days or weeks as summer storms continue. In other words, what may begin as a minor roof repair can quickly become a major problem, or even a roof replacement, before you know it.
At Elite Roofing, we are proud to be Castle Rock’s leader in storm damage repair. Our experienced team is here to help you through every stage of the process. Don’t allow a small issue to become a costly problem, schedule your free, no-obligation roofing inspection today!
Did we mention that while we’re on your property, our professional roofing inspector will also provide a comprehensive inspection of your windows, siding, fencing and gutters? Allow us to help you determine if Saturday’s storm did in fact cause property damage that needs to be repaired. Schedule your free inspection today!
With Colorado’s infamous storm season fast approaching, we always like to take this opportunity to help property owners prepare for what’s to come. As leading Denver roofers, serving the Mile High City for more than a decade, we have helped thousands of homeowners repair and replace roofs after sustaining storm damage. When we think of roof damage, many of us think of hail. However, wind damage can be just as destructive. Let’s take a closer look at how to spot wind damage and what you should do if you discover some.
When a major wind storm hits, your roof is not hit evenly. Instead different areas of your roof, depending on height and orientation, will be impacted differently. Typically, ridgelines and corners sustain the most damage, though loose shingles can also take a major hit. When strong gusts of wind lift shingles or tear them off completely, your underlayment can be exposed to the elements, making your home susceptible to leaks.
Not only can strong winds cause direct damage to your roof, they can also cause debris to hit and damage your roof. From falling trees to flying debris, wind storms can pose a major threat to your property.
There are many signs to look for when surveying your property for wind damage including:
Wind damage can cause more harm than what meets the eye. An experienced Denver roofer will be able to help you assess the health of your roof and determine if you are in fact in need of a roof replacement or repair. We encourage you to keep this in mind as we all prepare for storm season. After all, what starts as a small issue can quickly grow into a major problem if left unaddressed. Plan to be vigilant this storm season. Survey your property after each storm and contact a professional if you see signs of damage.
At Elite Roofing, we are proud to offer complementary, no-obligation roofing inspections. We believe you can never be too careful when it comes to protecting your home. We encourage you to contact us at the first sign of roof storm damage. Allow us to put our experience to work for you. Contact us via our site, chat with us now or give us a call. Is your roof in need of a repair or replacement? Or perhaps you’re not quite sure? In either case, now is the time to find the best roofers in your area and schedule a roofing inspection. Why the rush? As we look ahead to spring, hundreds if not thousands of home owners in your area will be taking to the web searching for ‘best roofers near me’ as the busy season begins. By putting off your request for an inspection, you will unfortunately be in line behind a long list of area property owners and risk having a limited selection of roofing companies from which to choose.
The roofing industry has a very distinct ‘busy season.’ While it can differ from region to region, busy season is during warm weather months when temperatures range from 40° to 85°. When high and low temperatures remain consistently in this range, roofing contractors can work as many as 7 days a week replacing and repairing roofs. Here in Colorado, this means that roofing contractors are in prime busy season from late spring into mid-fall.
The best roofers in your area are already beginning to plan for their busy season. These companies in high demand begin preparing months in advance, lining up project managers and crews while helping property owners select roofing products and, in some cases, interfacing with insurance companies on their behalf. If you suspect that you will be in need of either a roof replacement or repair when warmer weather prevails, we encourage you to complete the search for ‘best roofers near me’ and schedule your inspection today.
Any reputable roofer will provide a free, no-obligation inspection, so you have nothing to lose. Your professional inspection will help you determine if you should be planning for a roof repair or replacement when warm weather arrives. You may very well discover that your roof is in good shape and will not need any service in the near future. If, however, you find that you’re in need of a repair or replacement, you will be able to make arrangements to be included in your roofing contractor’s production schedule.
Don’t make the mistake so many property owners do. Find a leading roofing contractor in your area today, before they are backed up for weeks or even months.

At Elite Roofing, a major part of our job as leading Denver roofers is to educate homeowners about the insurance claim process. One of the most common topics we discuss is recoverable depreciation and how it works. If you’re currently making a homeowner’s insurance claim and you’re not sure how recoverable depreciation will impact you, you’re not alone! Let’s take a closer look at what it means and how it plays a role in the insurance claim process.
Depreciation is the monetary difference in the current market value for your property versus the replacement value. An example would be an air conditioning unit for which you paid $4,000 just a few years ago. If it is damaged in a wind storm, your insurance company would assess the depreciation of the value of the AC unit based upon its overall condition and wear and tear.
Recoverable depreciation refers to the amount of compensation you recover from your insurance provider after making a claim. If you carry Replacement Cost Value (RCV) coverage, you can expect to receive payment from your insurance provider in 2 phases. First, you will be compensated for the depreciated value of the damage item(s). Once repaired, you will receive another payment for the remaining recoverable depreciation.
RCV coverage is designed to protect all involved parties. As the homeowner, you can rest assured that you will be properly compensated in the event of damage to your property. This also enables the insurance company to mitigate fraud by incentivizing property owners to complete covered repairs rather than simply pocketing insurance payouts.
Nonrecoverable depreciation it typically only a concern for property owners who carry an Actual Cash Value (ACV) policy. This type of coverage comes at a lower monthly premium as it only promises to cover the depreciated value of your property at the time it is damaged. There are however instances in which an RVC policy only covers certain items at actual cash value. Not sure what your insurance covers? Check the details of your policy, as ACV and RVC coverage should be clearly defined.
If you’re ready to make a recoverable depreciation claim, it’s important to first do your homework. If you’re making a roof damage insurance claim, for example, we encourage you to first contact a reputable roofing company. Why? You may find that your damage is not substantial enough to warrant a claim. On the other hand, if the damage is substantial, an experienced roofing company can help you navigate the claims process to insure you receive adequate RCV compensation.
At Elite Roofing, we are here to help you through each step of the roof damage insurance claim process. Allow us to provide a free, no-obligation roofing inspection to help you determine the best course of action when interfacing with your insurance provider. Have questions? No problem! “Elite Roofing replaced my roof this fall, and they did an exceptional job start to finish. Chad Brockmeyer was my rep, and he was there at every turn. Worked with my insurance adjuster and was able to get me additional repair work done to the house that he had missed. He showed up with the crew right on time, and they were super-fast, efficient, and did a fantastic job cleaning up as well. They had my house complete by early afternoon. Highly recommend them to anyone!”
“Elite replaced our roof after a hail storm this summer. The process was easy and they worked with the insurance company, working out all the details. Paul, the project manager, was easy to talk with and communicated with us every step of the way. He went above and beyond when the insurance company didn’t want to replace the entire roof and got the whole roof replace. I will definitely recommend Paul and Elite to friends.”

Are you looking to replace an aging or damaged roof? If so, chances are you’re contemplating which type of roof to invest in. With so many choices, and varying price points, it can feel a bit overwhelming to weigh your options. However, at Elite Roofing, we always find that it’s best to familiarize yourself with all of the roof types available to you. Once you understand the benefits of each, you’re prepared to make an educated decision about your next roof. Let’s take a closer look at the most popular roof types available on the market today.
The most commonly used type of shingle on the market today, asphalt roofs offer a cost-effective solution in a myriad of color options. Offering an expected lifespan of 20 years, asphalt shingles are a great option for the homeowner looking for a low profile, inexpensive roof. However, if you’re interested in adding an architectural accent to your home, an asphalt roof might not be the right choice.
Contrary to popular belief, you actually have two choices when it comes to types of tile roofs: clay or concrete. Clay tile roofs have a life expectancy of up to 100 years and an average water absorption rate of 6%. It is important, however, to keep in mind that extreme freezing and thawing can cause clay tiles to crack. Clay tile roofs come at a higher price point, than asphalt shingles, however their longer lifespan can actually equate to a lower total cost of ownership. If you’re looking to add charm to your curb appeal, clay tile might be a good material to explore.
Offering many similarities to clay tile, concrete tile roofs are available in a wide variety of looks and colors. Concrete tile has an average absorption rate of 12%, making it to more prone to mildew. These roofs have an average expected lifespan of 50 years. Concrete tile also comes at a higher price than asphalt, however it can prove more cost effective over time. If you want to achieve a certain look, or add some style to your home, concrete tile is a great option to consider!
A great alternative to wood shingles, slate is durable, fireproof and green. These beautiful roofs offer a unique look because each piece of slate offers a slight color variation. If you’re looking for a stunning roofing material that will stand up to harsh Colorado weather conditions, we encourage you to look into slate.
As the name implies, synthetic shake offers a beautiful alternative to the classic wood shake roof. Due to fire hazards, wood shake shingles are no longer permitted to be installed in many Colorado municipalities. At Elite Roofing we’re proud to instead offer fire resistant, synthetic wood shake. Offering the same classic appeal of wood shake, without the fire risk, synthetic shake is quickly growing in popularity. If you love the wood shake look, we encourage you to explore your synthetic options.
While there are dozens of options when it comes to roofing materials, these popular materials are most commonly requested by discerning homeowners. If you’re ready to learn more about these and other roof types, we encourage you to schedule your free, no-obligation roofing inspection today! Allow one of our roofing experts to assess the style of your home and help you consider which roof type is right for your needs.
