Meet the Team Behind One of Denver’s Top Solar Roofing Companies

At Elite Roofing & Solar, our motto since our founding has been “Roofing Done Right.” As we moved into the solar installation industry, our goal was to carry that core value over into the solar side of our company. By keeping that motto central, we’ve established ourselves as one of Denver’s top solar roofing companies—and it’s all thanks to the team that makes it happen every day.

Today, we’re sharing more info about our solar team and their process for roof-mounted solar installation. As homeowners research solar roofing companies, we hope you’ll take some time to get to know the team behind our services!

Meet Our Solar Team

Elite Roofing & Solar is one of the top solar roofing teams serving all of Denver and the Front Range. We couldn’t deliver such high-quality service without an amazing team! Let’s get to know your solar experts

Robert Brownlee, Director of Solar Operations

As Director of Solar Operations, Robert is the man behind everything in our solar department. He manages all facets of this arm of the business, including overseeing project management, sales, and installation teams. We chose him as director given his wealth of experience—he got his start on solar projects 20 years ago and has experience in home construction as well.

Robert is committed to building our solar program and was drawn to Elite Roofing & Solar by our company’s core values of Faith, Family, and Integrity. In his free time, he makes the most of outdoor living in Colorado, whether it’s riding ATVs, hiking, or visiting parks with his family.

Larry O’Farrell, Master Electrician

Many solar roofing companies only sell solar, as they don’t have a master electrician on staff. But we do! Larry O’Farrell is behind all of our electrical needs here at Elite Roofing & Solar, installing all equipment as well as helping out with bidding, estimating, planning, installing, troubleshooting, and more.

Larry has been in the electrical contracting industry for 30 years, and he’s always been driven by an interest in helping others solve problems. He was drawn to Elite Roofing & Solar by our commitment to integrity and safety, along with our low-pressure sales approach. When Larry isn’t working his hobbies include traveling, perfecting his golf swing, and creating content on YouTube and Twitch.

David Tucker, Solar Technician

David joined the Elite Roofing & Solar team in 2024 after entering the solar industry back in 2019. As a solar technician, David’s responsibilities include solar detaches and resets, all while providing top-notch customer service.

David was drawn to this industry by the prospect of working outdoors and seeing new sights—though he says the heights and steep pitches are still something he’s getting used to. When he isn’t conquering his fears and delivering excellence in solar installations, David enjoys spending time outdoors with his three dogs, as well as fishing, hiking, and riding his ATV.

Dylan Smelley, Solar Technician

With 6 years in the contracting industry, Dylan has gained a lot of experience in various trades, entering the solar industry in 2021 before joining the Elite Roofing & Solar team in 2024. For Dylan, he most enjoys working with his hands, something that has been passed down to him from generation to generation.

As a solar technician, Dylan’s focus is providing smooth and efficient installation and removal services for our customers, and he’s always working to execute his job perfectly. When he isn’t perfecting his installation technique, Dylan spends his days off going to church, spending time with his family, and riding around on his ATV or dirt bike.

Our Process: How We Make Solar Happen

Another thing that sets us apart from other solar roofing companies is our straightforward installation process. Our mission is to provide the highest level of customer service, and we follow a six-step process for all solar projects, ensuring we meet our customers’ financial and environmental goals.

Our solar team is committed to quality, efficiency, and ensuring our customers get exactly what they need. Here’s what the process looks like when you choose our team for your solar installation:

  1. Initial Consultation: We begin by evaluating the customer’s needs and providing a cost-effective solar solution.
  2. Site Survey: Our electrician visits your home or business to collect necessary information and photos for our Structural and Electrical engineers.
  3. Engineering Design: Our engineering team creates a detailed plan, including system layout and requirements from the utility and AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction).
  4. Permitting & Interconnection: We use the plan to apply for interconnection with the utility, ensuring the system will work seamlessly with your utilities. Simultaneously, we apply for the necessary building and electrical permits from your city or jurisdiction.
  5. System Installation: After approvals, we begin the installation, which typically takes just one day to complete, despite the scale of the project.
  6. Inspections & Utility Testing: After installation, we schedule inspections with your city/jurisdiction and have the system tested by your utility provider. Once completed, you can start enjoying your own clean, reliable energy.

Local Roofers Elite Roofing & Solar Help Out with Habitat Home

At Elite Roofing & Solar, we aim to stay true to our values as local roofers in Denver. A major part of what we do is our motto, “Roofing Done Right,” but that extends beyond the roofing work we do and into how we operate as a company.

As a roofing company with deep roots in our community, we’re always looking for ways to give back to the place that has given us so much. Habitat for Humanity is a great organization and provided our team with an amazing opportunity to do just that. Learn more about how our team participated in this homebuilding project!

Volunteering for the American Dream

The classic vision of the “American Dream” includes a house with a family and a picket fence. Habitat for Humanity aims to help struggling families reach the goal of having a home of their own, with volunteers chipping in to lend their time building different portions of each house.
Our crew was up to the task! During our time volunteering, the organizers actually had our team building fences for two different homes that were under construction. Our team dug the holes, planted the stakes, and installed the pickets at these two houses, helping to give the entire property a more complete look.

Getting the Whole Team Involved

It’s said that it takes a village to raise a child, but in the case of Habitat for Humanity, it also takes a village to build a home. Luckily at Elite Roofing & Solar, our team has grown substantially over the years, and we were able to send several volunteers out for this project. Team members Cody Hayes, Randy Brothers, Morgan Dillon, Eddy Shoots, Doug DuLac, Bobby McAfee, Yannet Velez, and Jazmin Soto all contributed to this project.

For many of our team members, working with power tools was nothing new, as several volunteers have spent years working on roofing projects. Others from our in-house office staff, however, hadn’t had much experience and got to learn throughout the process.

“It was a great opportunity for hands-on learning,” said Elite Roofing & Solar co-owner Cody Hayes. “We also gained new skills in fencing, which made the experience even more rewarding.”

Community involvement is a core value at Elite Roofing & Solar. While we regularly contribute gifts and monetary donations, this year we wanted to go beyond that by donating our time and skills to make a more direct impact.

A Worthy Organization

Habitat for Humanity is one of the country’s most well-known volunteer organizations. Founded in 1976, Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to “bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope.” They do so by building and repairing homes across the country and even some abroad, including in Canada, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and more.

With a presence in all 50 states, Habitat for Humanity is widely available for individuals across the country to volunteer and has built or repaired over 40 million homes, including more than 800,000 new builds.

Consider Supporting Your Local Habitat for Humanity Chapter

The Habitat for Humanity chapter here in Denver has been very successful, and we’ve been glad to volunteer for them several times over the years. “We always look forward to stepping out of the office and taking on new and meaningful challenges as a team,” said Hayes.

Habitat for Humanity makes for a great team- and community-building experience. We highly recommend getting involved with their organization, as they do great work and are always looking for another set of hands.

As Local Roofers, Elite Roofing & Solar Supports Our Community

Our community has given us so much here at Elite Roofing & Solar, both as a successful business and as individuals who call the Denver area home. Given our values of Faith, Family, Honesty, and Integrity, giving back is just part of who we are. We were glad to participate in this project and we hope to continue making an impact throughout our community.

Homeowners in CO Will Need a Permit for a Roof Replacement

When it comes to replacing your roof, paperwork is likely the last thing on your mind. For many homeowners, the top concern is choosing the right roof for their home. If your roof was damaged by storms, you’re likely more worried about insurance coverage and replacing your roof quickly—before the next storm arrives. But do you need a permit for your roof replacement?

Here at Elite Roofing & Solar, our goal is to be a reliable resource for our customers in all things roofing. Colorado homeowners will need a permit before completing a roof replacement. However, there’s more to the story than just applying right away. Here’s what you should know.

Do You Need a Permit for a Roof Replacement?

In Colorado, all homeowners will need a permit before a roof replacement can be completed. While exact permitting requirements vary throughout the state, permits for full replacements are universal.

Permits are also required for many types of roof repairs, but the exact cutoff depends on your city and county. Here in Denver, if repairs amount to more than 10% of a roof that is 25,000 square feet or smaller, a permit is required. This also applies if repairs cover 5% of a roof larger than 25,000 square feet.

Because roof replacements cover your entire roof, though, this means all roof replacement projects fall under this requirement.

Why Are Permits Required?

Roof permitting requirements help to ensure homes and other buildings are built according to health and safety standards. Here in Colorado, this includes regulations on how many layers of roofing are installed as well as minimum fire resistance requirements and more.

Permitting also links the roofing company you hire to the work done on your home. In the event that roofing work completed does not meet standards and building codes, this makes it much easier to hold the roofer responsible for substandard work.

In other words, permitting protects you as the homeowner in many ways!

What’s Included in a Roofing Permit?

A roofing permit will include full documentation of the roofing project in question. It will have information about both you, as the property owner, and your contractor, including their licensing info. The permit will detail the type of work being done, the size of your roof and scope of the project, what materials will be used, and numerous details about the roofing system including flashings, ventilation, and more.

These details help ensure the new roof will meet regulatory standards and adequately protect your home against the elements.

What If I Don’t Get a Roofing Permit?

If your roof replacement is completed without first pulling a permit, this can result in major consequences. As the homeowner, if your roof is replaced without a permit, you may be subject to fines or other penalties. In addition, if the roof becomes damaged or fails prematurely, your insurance coverage could be compromised, as this could be seen as negligence. Since work was not completed according to regulations and without proper permitting, your insurance company will have significant grounds to deny any claims and leave you paying out of pocket for all repairs.

Some homeowners or unethical roofing companies may attempt to skip permitting in order to cut corners, but it simply isn’t worth the risk.

Who Should Pull a Permit for a Roof Replacement?

Luckily, if you’re worried about proper permitting, you won’t have to go through the process of pulling a permit yourself. When you work with a licensed, professional roofer, they will take on the responsibility of pulling permits on your behalf. This both demonstrates their credibility as a roofing company and ensures the process is completed correctly.

After all, well established roofers have years of experience and have pulled hundreds or thousands of permits in their time in the industry. This means they know exactly how to navigate the permitting process, saving you the headache in the process.

Elite Roofing & Solar: Colorado’s Most Trusted Roofer

Here at Elite Roofing & Solar, we don’t believe in cutting corners. Whether it’s a minor repair or a full replacement, we’ll always do our due diligence to ensure any roofing work we do on your home is completed with the proper documentation and paperwork.

If we’ve learned anything in our 15 years in business, it’s that the only way roofing is worth doing is if it’s Roofing Done Right. That’s how we’ve built our reputation as one of the most trusted Denver roofers. If you’re in need of a roof replacement, get in touch with our team today for an inspection and quote!

Elite Roofing & Solar Was the Residential Roofing Contractor of Choice for This Project

Home with a gray roof that had a solar roof installation, a blue car parked in the driveway in Denver, CO

At Elite Roofing & Solar, we’ve spent years perfecting our roof replacement process—part of what has made us so successful as a Denver residential roofing contractor. Our process involves not just the replacement itself, but all the work necessary to ensure the job is done efficiently while leaving the homeowner with their property clear of debris.

Today, we’re sharing a Project Spotlight that shows our reroofing process in action. We delivered a complete roofing system for this homeowner that will fully protect their property for years to come. This project was a true team effort, requiring a few instances of problem-solving from our team, and the final result was a pristine new roof. Our client was happy—and they’re already scheduling additional work with us for their solar installation.

Let’s take a look at this project!

Background & Client: A Family in Montclair/Lowry

Our client for this project was a family located in the Montclair and Lowry area within Denver, a short drive away from our office. This family was in need of a full roof replacement and had already gotten work approved by their insurance company.
They set out in search of a local residential roofing contractor they could trust, knowing the importance of identifying a high-quality roofer. They found Elite Roofing & Solar online and after discussing their project, they chose us for the job.

A Full Residential Roof Replacement

This project was to be a full roof replacement, tearing off the previous roofing system in its entirety and installing a new roofing system in its place. The previous roof had been damaged by storms, creating the need for a total replacement.
As this was a storm damage roof replacement, the homeowners were hoping to avoid situations like this in the future as best as they could. As an experienced residential roofing contractor, we shared our recommendations on materials they could use to better protect their roof. They opted for GAF Class 4 IR shingles, which would maximize their protection against impacts from hail—a very common threat to roofs here in Denver.

Designing a Complete Roofing System

Our team worked efficiently and methodically to design a complete roofing system for these homeowners. In addition to the IR shingles, we would be installing a ridge vent on the home, a synthetic underlayment with ice and water shield, pipe boots, and new flashing. During tear off, we also noted a portion of OSB (oriented strand board) that had rotted and replaced this section of the roof.

A Full Team Effort

This project is a great example of how our team collaborates and contributes to ensure a smooth roof replacement process. Project manager Jose heads one of our top crews; they always work with amazing efficiency and leave job sites clear of debris, something that’s very important to us when working with homeowners. Our production coordinator ensured our team had everything we needed, our insurance supplement specialist ensured insurance was covering everything necessary, and our administrative assistant Megan always keeps our team operating at our highest level.

During the process, our team also consulted with our commercial roofing team as the roof had a section of EPDM as well. This type of roofing is typically used in commercial projects but can sometimes be seen on small sections of residential roofs. Our commercial project manager was able to confirm our crew could safely shingle around this section of the roof without causing issues.

The Beginning of a Lasting Relationship Gray asphalt shingle roof with three different types of roof vents, installed by Elite Roofing & Solar in Denver

Our team delivered a complete roofing system that will protect this home and left our client completely satisfied. We’re proud of our team for their work—but we also can’t say enough good things about our clients. They were very understanding of the timeline throughout the project and provided all the information our crews needed to work effectively.
We’re excited for this project to be the beginning of a great relationship, as these homeowners have already reached out to us about installing solar panels on their new roof!

Elite Roofing & Solar: Denver’s Trusted Residential Roofing Contractor

Our team at Elite Roofing & Solar has the roof replacement process down to a science. We focus on delivering superior-quality roofing systems while working efficiently to minimize disruptions to you and your family. Our crews are skilled and courteous, leaving job sites clean and ensuring your property is left exactly as we found it—just with a new roof!
If you’re ready to work with the best residential roofing contractor in Denver, call Elite Roofing & Solar to schedule an inspection today.

Toys for Tots Helps Us Support Our Community as a Local Roofing Contractor

‘Tis the season for giving, and our team at Elite Roofing & Solar takes our role in our community seriously. For us, being a local Denver roofing contractor is about much more than just the work we do. It’s also important for us to give back when we have the chance, we know there are many who are less fortunate than us throughout our community.

Each year, the Elite Roofing & Solar team participates in a toy drive to support Toys for Tots, and 2024 was no different. In fact, this was the 10th consecutive year of the toy drive, marking a major milestone for all of us. Here’s how our team supported this incredible organization, and what this event means to us.

A Shopping Spree for Charity Cody Hayes of Elite Roofing & Solar inside a store beside carts full of toys for the 10th Annual Toys for Tots drive in Denver

Our annual toy drive includes two parts: a donation box placed in our office between October and December, and a one-day team shopping spree where we purchase toys in support of the organization.

For the shopping portion, members of our team made stops at major stores including Wal-Mart and Target to shop for children aged 3–12. Our goal was to purchase as many toys as we could and donate them, much like our Turkey Drive around Thanksgiving. All told, we wound up with 8–10 carts full of toys to contribute to Toys for Tots.

A Cause Close to Our Team

Toys for Tots is a wonderful organization that has been in operation since 1947. Established and run by the U.S. Marine Corps, the goal of Toys for Tots is to “through the gift of a new toy, help bring the joy of Christmas and send a message of hope to America’s economically disadvantaged children.”

Our team is very passionate about this cause; in particular, Morgan Dillon at Elite Roofing & Solar, whose husband is a Marine, has volunteered with the organization for many years alongside her family and in many states throughout the U.S.

In addition, the mission of Toys for Tots is one that resonates with our entire team, as we all have our own families to think about and can empathize with the feeling of not having enough to purchase Christmas presents.

“Every kid wants toys for Christmas and not every parent can afford them,” said General Manager and VP Cody Hayes. “We want to provide a positive impact on our community and giving back is one of the best ways we know how to do that.”

With so much support for the organization and their mission throughout our team, working with Toys for Tots has been a no-brainer for years.

A truck full of toys for the 10th Annual Toys for Tots by Elite Roofing & Solar in DenverPutting Our Resources to Use

In addition to this event’s importance to our team, the toy drive also makes excellent use of our resources and manpower as a roofing contractor. We have many individuals on staff who participated in the shopping spree, helping to load and unload dozens of toys.

In addition, the trucks we use each day were perfect for hauling a high volume of toys from the stores to the donation site. The Toys for Tots warehouse is also ideally located, not far from our main office, making this entire event very streamlined.

Consider Supporting Toys for Tots

While the main push for donations occurs during the holiday season, Toys for Tots is happy to receive support throughout the year. Our team participates via our toy drive and donation box, but monetary donations and other support is always welcomed. You can learn more about supporting Toys for Tots on their website.

Elite Roofing & Solar: Roofing Contractor Supporting Our Community

As a local roofing contractor, it’s important to all of us to establish a spirit of giving back throughout our team. After all, we call this area home too, and as a company of families, we understand the need to support our loved ones. We’re proud of our team’s participation this year and we look forward to continuing to provide support in 2025.

If You’re Faced with Hail Damage, You Likely Have Questions About Your Insurance Coverage

As Colorado’s hail season approaches, homeowners should be aware of their options when facing hail damage. While repairs can be effective, roof replacement may provide more peace of mind. We’re often asked here at Elite Roofing & Solar: “How much hail damage does it take for insurance to replace a roof?”

There are no hard and fast answers to this question, as the situation is highly dependent on a number of factors. However, there are some details we feel it’s important to share when it comes to hail damage and your roof. Here’s what you should know if you’re faced with hail damage to your roof.

How Much Hail Damage for Insurance to Replace a Roof?

In general, insurance companies that cover hail damage will require a certain number of hits per square in order to pay to replace your roof. A “square” is a roofing term that refers to a 10 foot by 10 foot area of your roof. The number of hits required can vary greatly; 10 hits within a square is a common benchmark, but this is far from universal.

However, even when providing this vague of an answer, we must include many caveats. Some insurance providers may not use this method to determine whether a roof replacement is warranted, for instance, while other carriers or policies (though unlikely) may not cover hail damage at all. This is why it’s important to read up on your insurance policy and even talk to your provider about the specifics of your insurance plan so that you know exactly how much hail damage it will take to replace your roof.

What Situations Will Result in a Lack of Insurance Coverage?

a person signing insurance paperwork with an image of a home overlaid

In addition to the above answer, there are many situations where your roof replacement will only be partially funded by your provider—or even not funded at all. One situation, of course, is if you aren’t covered for hail damage. However, homeowners insurance policies that don’t cover hail damage in some form are fairly rare, particularly here in Colorado where hail storms are such a frequent occurrence.

More common reasons for a lack of coverage are neglect or age. If your roof is beyond its expected lifespan, for instance, it’s possible that your insurance provider won’t cover a roof replacement. Neglect can also hurt your ability to get covered for hail damage. If your provider finds that you left previous hail damage (or other roofing issues) unaddressed, it’s much less likely that they’ll pay to replace your roof.

How Much Does Insurance Pay Out for Hail Damage?

Much like the above questions, the answer to this one will depend on your policy, the extent of the damage, and the overall value of your roof. A major consideration when it comes to insurance payouts, however, is what method your policy uses to determine the value of your property. Insurance policies will generally fall under one of two categories: Replacement Cost or Actual Cash Value.

If you have a Replacement Cost policy, and your insurance provider determines a roof replacement is warranted, your payout will be for the full value of your roof. If you have an Actual Cash Value policy, on the other hand, depreciation will be factored in, resulting in a lower payout overall.

How Do I Find Out If My Roof Needs to Be Replaced?

Whether your insurance provider will fund a roof replacement due to hail damage and whether you need to replace your roof are two different questions. The answer to the second question is much more important—after all, if you need a roof replacement, it’s crucial to schedule this project right away. Leaving a compromised roof over your head means your home is vulnerable to the elements and can put your family at risk.

If your roof has been damaged, the most logical next step is to schedule a roof inspection from a reputable local roofing company. At Elite Roofing & Solar, we specialize in thorough hail damage roof inspections that will identify all points of roof damage. This can be useful in building your case in the event that you need to get in contact with your insurance provider.

Schedule Your Hail Damage Inspection Right Away!

Every year, Denver experiences severe hail storms that cause significant roof damage for many homeowners. Some homeowners are unsure if their insurance will cover the cost of a roof replacement. However, regardless of your insurance coverage, it is crucial to promptly inspect and repair your roof. Fixing your roof will ensure your family’s safety the next time a major storm hits the Denver metro area.

If your home was impacted by recent hail storms, contact Elite Roofing & Solar today for an inspection!

Learn More About Tile Roof Cost Factors

While tile roofing has typically been most common in the West and Southwest, Colorado homeowners have increasingly opted for tile due to its longevity and durability. The aesthetic benefit of tile is also undeniable: while asphalt roofs mainly vary in color, tile roofs come in a myriad shapes, sizes, colors, and more, enabling homeowners to transform their roof into a beautiful architectural focal point. But if you’re a homeowner with an existing shingle roof, how much will a tile roof cost to install?

At Elite Roofing & Solar, we often have customers ask about tile roofing options, and the first question tends to be about cost. As all professional Denver roofing companies will tell you, though, this can be a complicated matter with tile, as a great number of variables will determine the total cost of a tile roof. So if you’re considering making the switch to tile roofing, here’s a rundown of the different tile roof cost factors to consider.

Tile Roof Cost Estimate

To start off with a general price range, the average total cost of a tile roof installation will likely fall anywhere from $14,000 on the low end to more than $75,000 on the higher end.

Why such a large range? Well, as with the cost of any roof, the cost of a tile roof will depend on how large your home is. A roof may have anywhere from 1,000 to 3,000 feet of surface area, which will drastically impact the final price.

In addition factors such as the specific products you choose, the amount of work involved in switching from asphalt shingles to tile, and much more will all have a large impact.

Cost of Materials

After considering the size of the roof, the biggest factor in determining the overall cost of a tile roof is the material from which the tiles are made.

Concrete Tiles

Concrete tiles tend to be the cheapest overall, at anywhere from $4 to $9 per square foot, and concrete is generally lighter weight than other tile materials.

Clay Tiles

Clay tile ranges from $5 to $10 per square foot, and it’s a material that can be beautifully molded into many different tile shapes.

Terracotta Tiles

The most expensive tile material, terracotta ranges from $6 to $15 per square foot. This is also the most durable however, and unlike concrete and clay, terracotta tiles don’t change color over time.

As a rule of thumb, tweaking and customizing the shape of your roof tiles will increase the price further. Still, there are many pros and cons to each material beyond cost, so it’s important to discuss your project with a trusted Denver roofing company before making any decisions.

Photo of a tile roof installation in Denver Cost of Tile Roof Installation

Tile tends to be among the trickiest materials to work with, meaning it’s always best to leave installation to one of the many professional roofing companies in Denver. Not only that, but it’s important to choose a roofing company with extensive experience in tile roofing. Roofers will less experience working with tile may break more material, take longer to complete the installation, and potentially leave your roof vulnerable to damage.

As a baseline, expect to pay around $7 or $8 per square foot to have a tile roof installed. You may also see this price quoted in roof “squares,” a unit equal to 100 square feet that many roofers prefer to deal in for simplicity’s sake ($7 to $8 per square foot = $700 to $800 per square). The average roof tends to be about 22-26 squares in size.

Additional Cost Factors

From these baselines, many other factors play a role in the cost of installing a tile roof. Roofing companies in Denver may include some of these in the overall installation cost quoted to you, but it’s important to make sure of this before deciding which company to hire.

Removal of old roof – This is typically the first step in the installation process, and the cost can vary depending on how much material there is to remove. For instance, some roofs on older buildings may have been layered over an existing roof, making it more expensive to remove.

Underlayment – In addition to the tiles themselves, installing a tile roof also includes the material directly beneath the tiles that adds stability, called the underlayment. If you’re replacing an existing tile roof, the cost of installing the underlayment may be reduced.

Roof supports – Tile roofs are heavier than other roof types. While this makes them quite durable and weather-resistant, it can also necessitate adding more support to your roof to ensure the frame of your home can support this heavier material.

Delivery and travel – Since tile is a heavy material, the cost of transporting and delivering it to your home may be greatly increased if you live far from the supplier or roofing company.

Elite Roofing & Solar: Leading Denver Roofing Company

While the upfront cost of installing a tile roof can be steep, the unparalleled durability of this material means a tile roof can more easily pay for itself over the course of its long lifetime. The average lifespan of a tile roof is typically from 50-100 years, with many tile roofs surviving for multiple centuries.

The incredible customizability of tile can’t be beat, and our professional team at Elite Roofing & Solar has worked on a wide range of gorgeous tile roofs over the years. If you want to learn more about tile roofs or start planning your own tile roof replacement project, contact us today! We’re proud to be the roofing company that many Denver homeowners have trusted to turn their roofs into true works of art.

Wondering Why Roofing Companies Offer Financing? We’re Sharing More on This Topic

In researching roofing companies, you may have noticed that, among their residential roofing services, roofers will frequently offer financing as well. These financing options can make payments more flexible for homeowners, and financing options may be used to cover a variety of services.

But have you ever wondered why roofing companies would offer financing options? At Elite Roofing & Solar, we always try to ensure our customers and readers are as informed about their roofing options as possible. So today, we’re exploring this question and sharing some insights.

A Difficult Time for Roofing

As any Colorado resident has surely noticed, the cost of many goods has increased over the years. The roofing industry has not been free from these economic factors, and continued strong storms in the Denver area and throughout the Front Range has kept the demand for roofing materials quite high.

As a result, roofing projects continue to be a major financial investment. Indeed, as roofers who are also homeowners ourselves, we know very well that a roof replacement is a major financial burden. This is especially true if you find yourself in a situation where your insurance company isn’t fully funding a roof replacement.

Rising Deductibles

In addition, insurance deductibles have risen as well. This is generally true from year to year, as insurance across nearly every domain—from homeowners insurance to health insurance—will tend to increase in price.

But as mentioned, our area is particularly susceptible to major storms, and hail damage in particular. This is alongside other events including fires, wind storms, and more. The increase in extreme weather has led to a notable rise in the number of insurance claims throughout the state. With the increased volume in claims, many homeowners have seen an increase in their deductibles, making a new roof more of an expenditure than it would have been five years ago.

Financing Provides More Options

With rising deductibles, homeowners are exploring their financing options before making a major purchase. Roofing companies know this, and a logical next step is to find ways to offer financing ourselves.

The reasoning behind roofing companies offering financing is simple: planning a roofing project, and especially a roof replacement, can be a stressful process. Choosing the right roofer, choosing the right materials, and planning financially are all essential and difficult steps. By providing access to financing directly, the goal of many roofing companies—including ours—is to offer greater efficiency and remove some of the headaches associated with planning a roofing project.

Why Might I Need Roof Financing?

In addition to rising deductibles, there are also situations where homeowners insurance may not cover a roof replacement at all. If this is the case, homeowners may need flexible payment methods, as most families won’t have the full cost of a roof replacement set aside. Common situations that may necessitate roof financing include:

  • A high insurance deductible
  • No coverage due to neglect or poor maintenance
  • Roof damaged by a cause not covered by your insurance policy
  • Wanting to upgrade your roof rather than replace with the same material

Advantages of Financing Through Elite Roofing & Solar

To help homeowners who are facing increased deductibles, and other challenges brought on by the economy, Elite Roofing & Solar is proud to offer a variety of roof financing options to our customers. We understand that not everyone has expendable income to pay for the upfront costs of a new roof, so we would like to help you finance it.

Here are some of the financing options that we offer:

  • A Deferred Payment Plan
  • Same as Cash Payment Plan
  • No interest, no payment for 6 months
  • Low monthly payments
  • Interest Free financing

As a Local Roof Replacement & Solar Contractor, Giving Back Is an Annual Event

Thanksgiving is a time for thankfulness and togetherness, and our team at Elite Roofing & Solar loves this time of year. We enjoy the season of giving and giving thanks, and it’s a time for gathering with our families to celebrate everything happening in our lives. But as a local Denver roof replacement contractor, this is also a time to give back to the community we live and work in.

Each year, the entire Elite Roofing & Solar team participates in our annual Turkey Drive, an event where we help Volunteers of America deliver Thanksgiving dinner to needy families throughout our service area. The event is always a favorite of our team, and 2024 marked 15 years of buying and donating dozens of turkeys, sides, and all the fixin’s. Read on to learn more about the event and our company’s involvement.

What Is the Turkey Drive? Elite Roofing & Solar staff loading Turkeys on a truck in Denver

The Turkey Drive is our biggest annual community event here at Elite Roofing & Solar. While members of our team volunteer and our company supports numerous organizations throughout our community, this is the big one where everyone always comes together to make it happen.

For the event, we shop at nearby grocery providers to acquire as many turkeys as we can, along with hams and classic Thanksgiving sides. We then donate these items through Volunteers of America to distribute the Thanksgiving dinners to low-income families throughout our area.

A Team Effort

The concept of our event seems similar enough, but it’s easy to forget about the logistical challenges that come with buying as many turkeys as we possibly can. For example, grocery stores don’t often anticipate customers coming in to buy all of their turkeys, so we’re often limited, which requires us to get creative.

Of course, the checkout process gets complicated as well, as it’s not often that a cashier needs to ring up 6–8 flatbed carts of turkeys, hams, and various Thanksgiving sides at once. Luckily, our team was up to the task, and so were the grocery stores we visited.

Each year, this event is truly a team effort. Besides our roofing crew purchasing and hauling the turkeys, various members of our team including office staff, project managers, and many others donate food and money to help our cause. It’s always exciting to see everyone come together!

Donating 75 Turkeys and So Much More Numerous Turkey on a pick-up truck in Denver

All told, our team was able to purchase and donate more than 75 turkeys, but that was far from everything. When we were limited to a certain number of turkeys by some of the grocery stores we visited, we supplemented our purchases with hams. We also collected and donated three full pallets of mixed-use fresh and canned food, including much-needed sides like cranberry sauce, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes, and more.

About Volunteers of America

So where is all this food going, anyway? Well, for the last 10 years of this event, we’ve partnered with Volunteers of America, an incredible nonprofit organization providing various health, housing, and human services throughout the United States. Their organization focuses on serving veterans and other needy families, and with locations across the country, they’re an incredible partner for community involvement efforts like ours.

By partnering with Volunteers of America, we’re able to ensure all the food we collect reaches those most in need. VOA has a large network of volunteers and supporters, with the experience and resources needed to distribute donations like ours. We’re proud to partner with our local chapter and we’ll be glad to continue our work each year!

To support Volunteers of America, Elite Roofing & Solar has also lent our services as a roof replacement contractor, helping to provide repairs on some of their buildings in the area.

Elite Roofing & Solar: Giving Thanks and Giving Back This Holiday Season

From the very beginning, Elite Roofing & Solar has been committed to Roofing Done Right. That applies to much more than just a roof replacement or solar installation, as part of doing things right means being a true part of the community we serve.

Every member of our Denver team is on board with these important values, and we’re proud of everyone for making this event such a huge success once more. And of course, we’re deeply grateful to our customers for continuing to choose us throughout the year.

Learn More About the Cost of a Professional Roof Inspection

If you suspect your roof has recently sustained damage or is simply showing signs of aging, having a roofing inspection is probably a good idea. But how much should you expect a roof inspection to cost?

At Elite Roofing & Solar, we have been serving the Mile High City for more than a decade. During that time, we have earned a reputation as the best of the best when it comes to Denver roofing companies. One of the reasons so many Colorado property owners trust us with their roof replacement and repair needs is our willingness to provide complimentary, no-obligation roof inspections. That’s right: our team will provide a thorough inspection and assess the health of your roof free of charge.

But is this common? Let’s take a closer look at roof inspections.

How Much Does a Roof Inspection Cost?

If there is an associated fee, a roof inspection may cost anywhere from $100 to $400 or more depending on the complexity of your roof. However, many roofing companies recognize the value of this service both for the homeowner and the contractor: homeowners get crucial information about their roof, while the roofer establishes a connection with a possible client. As a result they will often provide inspections for free.

At Elite Roofing & Solar, we believe a roof inspection is essential to the health of any roof. We offer free, no-obligation inspections to homeowners throughout Denver as we believe this is a good way to establish a strong client-contractor relationship.

Scheduling a Roofing Inspection

Whether you’re interested in working with us, or you’re considering another roofing company to complete your roofing inspection, we encourage you to consider the following:

  • Ask the contractor what their rate is upfront. While many roofing companies will complete an inspection free of charge, many others will not, and it’s best to learn the cost ahead of time. Avoid surprises, ask your prospective roofing contractor before scheduling a time for them to visit your property.
  • Do your homework before scheduling a roofing inspection. Check out the contractor’s online reviews, ask for references, and find out how they’re rated with the local Better Business Bureau. This is a quick way to determine if you’re in fact considering one of the best roofers in your area.
  • Consider the availability of the roofing contractor. Schedule the inspection well in advance to secure a convenient appointment time. Roofing contractors are in high demand, especially during peak seasons, making it crucial to plan ahead and schedule inspections or repairs well in advance.

Once you have narrowed your search to a reputable roofing contractor, schedule your roofing inspection.

Best Denver Roofers

At Elite Roofing & Solar, we not only offer free roofing inspections, we work to deliver unparalleled customer support at each step of the roofing process. From the time you schedule your roofing inspection to your final meeting with your project manager, we will work to live up to our reputation as the very best Denver roofers.

Our team of experienced professionals will provide a thorough and detailed inspection of your roof, identifying any issues or areas of concern. We take the time to explain our findings in a clear and transparent manner, ensuring you have a complete understanding of the condition of your roof.

The First Step of Any Commercial Roof Leak Repair Is to Find the Source

When it comes to commercial roof repair, a leak is typically the classic example many property owners think of. Leaks cause many significant problems, and when they progress far enough, they become hard to miss—think of water stains, mold and mildew, or even water dripping from the roof of your commercial building during a storm.

Leaks are not always simple to identify and diagnose, however, and for our commercial roofing team at Elite Roofing & Solar, our first priority is getting to the root cause of any problem we’re called in to solve. In some instances, we may be the second, third, or fourth roofer to inspect the roof—and our thorough process ensures we don’t miss leaks when we set out to find them. Here are a few reasons why our commercial roof leak diagnosis and repair team is so adept at identifying roofing issues.

Getting All the Info

Many commercial property managers and business owners may not realize it, but the inspection process starts with a conversation. Before walking around on a commercial roof to identify a leak or identify other areas in need of repair, our team will first speak with our client to learn all we can about the roof.

Crucial information will include when the roof was installed, how often it’s been inspected and maintained, whether any repairs have been made to the roof throughout its lifespan, how long they’ve noticed the leak, and so on. While not every piece of information will play a role in diagnosing your roof leak, we’ll almost always learn something note. This information will help expedite the process and cue our team on what to look for once we head up to the roof.

Attention to Detail

When water is dripping from your roof or you see water stains overhead, it’s easy to think there must be a huge, glaring problem with your roof. In many cases, though, leaks occur due to subtle damage that might even be difficult to see with the naked eye. After all, if your roof had a large hole in it, that’s something that would cause you to schedule a repair fairly quickly.

When it comes to commercial roof leak repair, attention to detail is critical. A hole, crack, or puncture just a few millimeters across can create an opportunity for rainwater to seep into your roof and create a leak. And when you’ve worked in commercial roofing for as long as we have, you learn where to look to find these types of vulnerabilities.

Getting Up Close and Personal

Our team at Elite Roofing & Solar isn’t afraid to get our hands—or arms, knees, or faces—dirty during the inspection process. Because finding a leak requires such close attention to detail, sometimes that means getting up close and personal with parts of your commercial roof. It means looking not just outside, but inside too, as well as checking key components like your roof’s ventilation and drainage systems.

See Our Team in Action!

Want to see an example of our commercial roofing team in action during a commercial roof inspection? Elite Roofing & Solar’s Dave Estes filmed a quick video documenting a leak we found on an EPDM roof recently. We were the third roofing company to inspect the roof—but by using our experience and thorough process, Dave was able to find the root cause of this roof’s leak.

Some of the key reasons Dave was able to find this leak? He knew the roof was relatively old, he knew common weak points to check, and as you can see in the video below, he wasn’t afraid to get his knees dirty to find the root cause.

Call Elite Roofing & Solar for Your Commercial Roof Leak Repair

At Elite Roofing & Solar, our team of experienced Denver roofers has the right skills and know-how to identify, diagnose, and quickly repair your commercial roof leak. Our team has in-depth knowledge of all commercial roofing systems, including common vulnerabilities and spots where leaks are likely to form.

If you’re having trouble getting to the root cause of your leak, we’re here to help! Schedule a commercial roof inspection with our team today.

Here at Elite Roofing & Solar, we pride ourselves not only on delivering exceptional quality and craftsmanship but also on helping our customers save money and maximize the value of their roofing investments. We understand the appeal of taking a DIY approach to simple home maintenance tasks; after all, there’s unbeatable satisfaction in doing the work yourself! Replacing asphalt shingles is a task that many homeowners can handle with a bit of guidance. However, it’s important to recognize that this process isn’t without its challenges.

To ensure your project goes smoothly, we’re here to guide you through the steps of replacing asphalt shingles while highlighting the five common mistakes to avoid along the way. Check out our video below or read through the article for a full rundown on this topic.

Mistake 1: Ripping or tearing surrounding shingles

The first step in replacing loose or damaged asphalt shingles is to remove the offending shingles. In doing this, it’s important to work carefully and deliberately. If you work too quickly or roughly, you risk making the first major mistake: damaging surrounding shingles. The last thing you want to do when replacing a bad shingle is to create more work for yourself—or worse, leave your roof in worse shape than it was before.

Mistake 2: Not removing the entire shingle

Rather than working carefully to remove the damaged shingle, it may seem simpler to cut out the shingle to save time. However, this is also a mistake! Failing to remove the entire shingle will make it much more difficult to put a new shingle in its place. The replacement shingle will likely be loose or improperly fastened, leaving your roof vulnerable to water or blown off shingles. You may need to remove nails from surrounding shingles to give yourself enough room, but the extra effort will be worth it in the end.

Mistake 3: Forgetting to seal nail holes

Once you’ve removed the faulty shingle, you’re ready to put a new shingle in its place. Carefully slide the new shingle where the old one was and nail it down. In doing so, take care not to make the third major mistake: forgetting to seal nail holes. Nails will hold your shingle down, but on their own they aren’t watertight. Unsealed nail holes create an entry point for water to penetrate through your roof’s underlayment to the decking below. This can cause rot and shorten the lifespan of your roofing system.

Mistake 4: Forgetting to replace nails from surrounding shingles

As mentioned earlier, you may need to remove nails from a few surrounding shingles to give yourself enough room to work with. That’s perfectly fine—as long as you remember to replace those nails later on! Forgetting to replace nails will result in loose shingles on your roof. This leaves room for water to penetrate your roof, and it can even lead to shingles blowing off of your roof in high winds.

Mistake 5: Not sealing your roof’s shingles

Once everything is nailed down, you may think you’re done replacing your roof’s damaged asphalt shingles. But shingles need more than just nails to stay in place, and forgetting to seal new shingles will leave you with loose shingles that can catch in the wind. To avoid this problem, seal your new shingles with shingle mastic (also called roof mastic). Don’t forget to re-seal surrounding shingles as well!

Bonus Mistake: Tackling a repair too large for DIY

Before setting about replacing asphalt shingles on your roof, it’s important to honestly assess your abilities compared to the damage on your roof. Replacing a couple shingles can be simple, straightforward, and completed within an afternoon.

However, if a larger area of your roof is damaged, or if after you remove the shingles you find that the underlayment has been compromised, you’re better off taking a step back and calling a professional to schedule a roof repair.

Replacing Asphalt Shingles: An Excellent DIY Roofing Project

At Elite Roofing, we feel every homeowner should have a few DIY tricks up their sleeve. Replacing damaged asphalt shingles is a handy skill to have! It’s a simple DIY repair project that can save you money and extend the life of your roof quite significantly. Of course, if you don’t want to do it yourself, the Elite Roofing & Solar team is always standing by with a full slate of residential roofing services. Getting the proper permits in place before completing a home improvement project is extremely important. As you compare Denver roofing companies, permitting is definitely a topic to consider. If you’re not sure who will be responsible for handling your permit, we encourage you to take note of today’s post. Discover what to expect as you plan for your project.

Insurance Supplements

If you are filing an insurance claim for a roof replacement, the cost of your permit should be accounted for in the bid your Denver roofing contractor provides your insurance company. Because permitting is part of the expense associated with your roof replacement, your insurance supplement will cover it. As you compare bids from Denver insurance companies, complete your due diligence and make sure they account for the cost of your permit.

Cash Projects

If you are paying for your Denver roof replacement out of pocket, the cost of your permit should still be accounted for in your bid. Any reputable Denver insurance company will handle the application and payment for your permit on your behalf, a cost which they will recuperate upon the completion of your project.

Permit written in blueDenver Roofing Permits

Regardless of if you are filing an insurance claim or paying out of pocket for your roof replacement, it’s important to understand these key facts about Denver roofing permits:

  •       Denver property owners are required to have a permit before completing a roof replacement. However, requirements are set by the Building Department.
  •       The Building Department might have specific fire-resistant roofing material guidelines.
  •       Some HOA’s have strict guidelines about changing roofing materials or colors. Be sure to consult your HOA before making any changes as this could be a very costly mistake.
  •       If your roof slope is less than 4:12, contact the Building Department for specific guidelines.

At Elite Roofing & Solar we are in the business of helping property owners repair or replace damaged roofs. Oftentimes our projects involve insurance supplements. In fact, we are proud to be a leading provider of Denver residential roofing services with extensive experience in handling insurance claims. In all of our years in Denver residential roofing, we have seen it all. As advocates for our customers, we consider it our responsibility to educate property owners about the roofing process. This is why we’re devoting today’s post to the importance of holding onto that insurance check when you receive it. Let’s take a closer look at our logic.

The Roof Insurance Claim Process

While all insurance providers operate a bit differently, the general sequence of events, when making a claim, follows a similar path. Once a claim has been made, an insurance adjuster will be assigned to your case. If they determine you are in fact eligible for an insurance supplement, it will typically be paid out in 2 or more payments.

Pro Tips

Residential Replacement C.jpg

Contact a Respected Denver Residential Roofing Professional First

Before ever beginning the claims process, it’s best to first consult a reputable Denver residential roofing contractor. We can help you determine if filing a claim is in your best interest. It’s important to keep in mind that the claims process is initiated the second you contact your insurance company. Should your provider decide not to cover your damage, the unpaid claim can still cause your premiums to rise when you’re next up for renewal. Leave it to the professionals to help you determine if your damage in fact warrants a claim.

Your Adjuster is There to Protect the Insurer

Remember that your insurance adjuster is hired by your provider to protect their own interests. Elite Roofing & Solar’s qualified Project Managers will discuss the scope of repairs or replacement on the your behalf with your insurer to make sure that the scope of work identified by your insurer complies with plans, specifications, codes, laws, rules, regulations, and roofing industry standards for workmanlike construction and repair.

When to Cash that Check

Oftentimes property owners receive partial payment for an insurance claim prior to the completion of a project. While it can be difficult to resist the urge to cash the check when it arrives, we always encourage property owners to hang on to their check(s) until they are ready to pay their Denver roofing contractor. All too often, property owners deposit insurance supplement checks and find themselves dipping into the funds before they have settled with their roofing contractor. The best way to avoid this overspend is to file your check(s) away in a safe place until project completion. This protects you from surprises when payment is due.

Schedule Your Free Roof Inspection Today!

While the roof insurance claim process can seem a bit overwhelming, there is no need to stress. At Elite Roofing & Solar, we are always here to answer questions and help you navigate the process. If you are ready to determine if now is the time to file a claim, we encourage you to schedule your free, no-obligation roofing inspection today. And remember, hold onto that check!

**NOTE: ELITE ROOFING & SOLAR IS NOT A PUBLIC ADJUSTER AND DOES NOT ACT AS ONE WHEN WORKING ON OUR CLIENT’S BEHALF.**

Here’s What Roofing and Solar Companies Can Do for You

At Elite Roofing and Solar, we feel the partnership between roofing and solar companies is an ideal pairing that brings our customers incredible value. This is because both roofing and solar companies are experts in their own fields—and when combined, you get the best of both worlds.

Elite Roofing & Solar has partnered with SunPower to bring our roofing customers the best roof-mounted solar solutions possible. Through both of our companies’ skills, years of experience, high standards, and commitment to service and customer satisfaction, it’s a partnership that truly can’t be beat. Here are some of the lesser-known reasons why working with a roofing company that also offers solar opens the door to some truly unique benefits.

Avoid Roof Damage During Solar Installation

The biggest benefit of pairing a roofing and a solar installer together is that you get the confidence of knowing your roof will be fully protected. Installing any kind of equipment on your roof introduces some risk of damage. Damage can occur due to foot traffic, as roofs aren’t built to withstand this, or from penetrations through the roof’s surface.

While installing solar panels won’t void your roof warranty with proper planning, that risk remains. But roofing and solar companies are able to work in concert to ensure your new solar array doesn’t compromise the integrity of your roof. Before installation, we can inspect to make sure your roof is solar ready. And once your solar array is up and running, we provide a post-installation inspection to ensure all penetrations are properly sealed and no roofing damage was left behind.

Access to Roofing Warranties

Solar installers typically provide warranties covering all components of the solar system they install. Crucially, however, those warranties don’t extend to the areas of your roof where solar panels are installed. This means, when you work with a solar installer alone, you’ll be left with the bill if installation compromises your roof and you’re faced with problems years later.

At Elite Roofing & Solar, we stand behind our residential roof repairs and replacements with our Roof Shield Lifetime Warranty. This warranty demonstrates our confidence in the workmanship and skill of our contractors—and for solar installations, we extend this warranty to all areas of your roof that were penetrated while installing your solar array.

This means if we miss any damage that occurred as a result of your solar installation, we’ve got you covered with the resulting repairs. The Roof Shield Warranty ensures your roof’s health will not be affected by installing solar panels—and it’s something that solar companies can’t offer without a roofing partner like Elite Roofing & Solar.

A Local Contact for Your Solar Roofing Needs

Elite Roofing & Solar has built up a strong reputation within our community over the years. With excellent reviews and high marks for both quality and customer service, we’re well known for Roofing Done Right throughout the Front Range of Colorado—and we’re proud of that record.

Many solar installers don’t have a local presence, as there are few truly local solar manufacturers. But by working with a solar company that’s partnered with a well established roofer, you gain the peace of mind knowing that you’ll always have a contact close by. Since we’ll be around for decades to come, you can have confidence that we can provide necessary repairs and stand behind the warranties covering the roof beneath your solar array.

Elite Roofing & Solar: The Best of Roofing and Solar Companies

By teaming up, roofing and solar companies provide many unique advantages that combine to help our customers get the most from their roof and solar array. Between our roofing expertise and SunPower’s status as the nation’s leading solar manufacturer, you can be confident that your roof and solar array will both stand the test of time.

If you’re ready to make 2023 the year you go solar, book your consultation today!

If you’re in the market to find the best roofing contractor in Denver, asking questions about credentials and licensure is a great place to start. Investing in a new roof or completing a major repair is a big decision that should be carefully considered. At Elite Roofing & Solar, we encourage our customers to invest time in asking the right questions in order to protect their investment. Consider the following qualifications when searching for roofing companies in Denver:

Colorado Business License

In Colorado, roofing contractors are categorized alongside general contractors and therefore are not required to have a state license. They are, however, required to carry a state business license. Be sure to ask any Denver roofing contractor you consider to share their business license information with you. In addition to state licensure, there are plenty of other variables to consider when vetting a potential roofing contractor.

Online Reviews

5 stars

Once you have confirmed that the roofing contractor(s) you are considering have Colorado business licenses, take a look at their online reviews. What do their customers have to say about their experience working with them? What is their average rating? Online reviews can help you quickly determine if you are in fact considering the best roofing contractor in Denver.

Other Roofing Qualifications

Though Colorado doesn’t require a special roofing contractor’s license, reputable roofing contractors can earn a multitude of qualifications. At Elite Roofing, we’re proud to maintain the following:

A new Longmont roof that’s both stylish and functional!

When it comes time to replace your roof, it opens up a world of possibilities. While you could always opt to use the same material as your existing roof had, it’s easy to see how a homeowner would want to change things up. Especially with so many high-quality roofing materials available on the market today!

In today’s Project Spotlight, a homeowner in Longmont was looking to replace their worn-out wood shake roof with a shingle that could stand up to Colorado’s brutal weather—especially our infamous hail storms. The Elite Roofing & Solar team recommended CertainTeed Presidential IR shingles for the job, and we think the resulting roof turned out great! Let’s take a closer look at this reroofing project.

Background and clients

For this project, our clients were first-time Elite Roofing & Solar customers referred to us by an insurance agent. Located in beautiful Longmont, CO, this home had a lot of personality, with a wood shake roof that helped it cut a unique profile. Unfortunately, the wood shakes had reached the end of their lifespan.

As you can see from the photo below, many shakes were beginning to curl up and lift from the roof, leaving the underlying structure of the roof vulnerable to damage. Wisely, the homeowners decided it was time to replace their roof completely! However, they were looking to maintain the original aesthetic of the wood shakes.

Why CertainTeed Presidential IR shingles?

As we mentioned above, a roof replacement is a great opportunity to shake up your home’s roof. In some cases, homeowners are hoping to change the look of their home and give it a new aesthetic. Other times, folks want a roof that will more effectively protect their home from hail and other adverse weather conditions. In this case, CertainTeed Presidential IR shingles were able to revive the original wood shake look with greatly improved durability! Here’s why these shingles were perfect for this reroof:

Industry-leading impact resistance

It’s no secret that Colorado’s Front Range is prone to hail storms. These damaging storms wreak havoc on roofs throughout the area, often leading to premature roof replacements. CertainTeed’s Presidential IR (impact resistant) shingles offer a solution to help ensure your roof can withstand our Rocky Mountain hail storms. With multiple layers of highly durable material, these shingles hold the highest impact rating from Underwriters Laboratories

Unique wood shake aesthetic

While CertainTeed Presidential IR shingles are, well, shingles, they’re made to emulate the look of wood shakes. In our opinion, they do a fabulous job, lending homes a beautiful look that will help your roof stand out compared to ordinary asphalt shingle roofs. These shingles are also available in a range of shades, helping homeowners get the perfect look for their home.

The challenges

Roofing projects are rarely without a few surprises! In this case, we faced a couple of unique challenges. Our first obstacle, of course, was the wood shake tear-off. While wood shakes make for a beautiful roof once built, they can be tricky to tear off without leaving a major mess. As an added surprise, we found a second layer of wood shake roofing beneath the outer layer we were aiming to replace! Throughout the teardown process, the Elite Roofing team was careful to remove the old roof with minimal mess—and of course, we cleaned up after ourselves following the project!

The result

Before starting work, we made sure to pull a Longmont reroof permit. With all the permitting squared away, we got to work tearing down both layers of roofing. Once complete, we installed a brand-new roofing system, with CertainTeed Presidential IR shingles in Shadow Gray completing this home’s sleek new look.

Elite Roofing & Solar: Denver’s Roof Replacement Experts!

Here at Elite Roofing & Solar, we’ve replaced countless roofs for homeowners throughout Denver and Colorado’s Front Range. Sometimes homeowners are hoping to keep the same look, while in other cases they’d like to change out their home’s old roof for one using some of the roofing industry’s top new materials. In either case, the choice is all yours—and Elite Roofing & Solar is here to help every step of the way!

If you’re looking to give your home a restored look with a brand new look, our team is standing by to take your call. Contact us today!

Understanding Roofing Insurance Claims and How Elite Roofing & Solar Can Help

Roof damage can be a costly and stressful situation for homeowners, especially after a major storm. When damage occurs, one of the most effective ways to cover repair costs is by filing a roofing insurance claim.

However, navigating the insurance claim process can be complicated and confusing. Many homeowners are uncertain about what steps to take, how the claim process works, or how to ensure that they receive the proper compensation to repair or replace their roofs.

In this article, we’ll break down the roofing insurance claim process and explain how a company like Elite Roofing & Solar can help homeowners better understand this system. With their expertise, homeowners can avoid common pitfalls and ensure that their roofs are repaired efficiently and effectively.

The Roofing Insurance Claim Process: A Step-by-Step Guide

When it comes to storm-related roof damage, insurance can play a significant role in minimizing out-of-pocket expenses. However, in order to receive compensation, homeowners must follow a series of steps when filing an insurance claim.

Here’s how the typical process works:

1. Inspection: Identifying Roof Damage Elite Roofing & Solar staff having a roof inspection on top of a roof in Denver, CO

The first step in the insurance claim process is to confirm that your roof has been damaged. Storms—especially hailstorms and high winds—are notorious for damaging roofing materials, but it’s not always obvious at first glance.

If you suspect your roof has been compromised, the first step is to call a professional roofer, such as Elite Roofing & Solar, for a thorough inspection. They will assess the condition of your roof and identify any damage. This inspection is crucial because, in some cases, the damage may be hidden or minor enough that it’s easy to miss during a quick visual check.

Once the roofer confirms that your roof has sustained damage, it’s time to get in touch with your insurance provider.

2. Filing an Insurance Claim

Once you’ve verified that your roof has significant damage, the next step is to file a roofing insurance claim. This process involves contacting your insurance company and reporting the damage. While the filing process can seem daunting, Elite Roofing & Solar can assist homeowners with this step.

Filing the claim is usually straightforward. You will need to provide basic information such as the date of the storm, details about the damage, and your policy number. Additionally, your insurance company will issue a claim number, which will be your reference throughout the claim process.

At this stage, working with a roofing contractor who is familiar with insurance claims is extremely helpful. Elite Roofing & Solar’s team can guide you through the necessary steps and help ensure that all relevant information is included, making the claim process smoother and faster.

3. Adjustment: Evaluating the Damage

Once your claim has been submitted, your insurance company will assign an adjuster to evaluate the damage. The adjuster is a representative of the insurance company whose job is to assess the situation and determine the scope of the repairs.

It’s important to remember that the adjuster works for the insurance company, which means their primary goal is to protect the insurance company’s interests. That’s why it’s critical to have your own representation during the adjustment process. Elite Roofing & Solar’s project managers work alongside the adjuster to ensure the insurance company’s assessment matches the actual damage and that all necessary repairs are identified.

During the adjustment, both the adjuster and the project manager will inspect your roof and the surrounding property to get a comprehensive view of the damage. This inspection typically takes around an hour to complete.

By having Elite Roofing & Solar’s experts present during this evaluation, you can be confident that the damage will be assessed accurately and that your claim will reflect the true scope of the repairs needed.

Insurance claims paperwork by Elite Roofing & Solar in Denver, CO4. Paperwork: Understanding the Scope of Work

After the adjuster completes their evaluation, they will provide a detailed estimate of the work needed to repair or replace the damaged roof. This document, known as the “scope of work,” outlines the repairs required and serves as the basis for the insurance company’s payout.

This is a critical part of the insurance claim process, as the scope of work determines what the insurance company will pay for. It’s essential to review this document carefully, and this is where Elite Roofing & Solar can offer valuable support. Their project managers can help you understand the scope of work, ensure all necessary repairs are included, and address any items that may have been overlooked by the insurance adjuster.

Sometimes, additional damage is uncovered after the initial estimate, or certain items may have been missed during the inspection. In such cases, Elite Roofing & Solar’s team is experienced in handling insurance supplements. These are adjustments to the initial estimate that account for any additional repairs or costs, ensuring that homeowners receive full compensation for all necessary work.

5. Payments and Processing: How Insurance Payouts Work

Once the scope of work is agreed upon, the insurance company will begin processing payments. In most cases, insurance claims for roof damage are paid out in multiple installments.

The first payment, known as the Actual Cash Value (ACV) payment, is based on the current value of your roof, factoring in depreciation for the age of the roof. This payment is usually issued shortly after the scope of work is approved.

The second payment, known as the Depreciation Payment, is issued once the roof repairs are completed. This payment covers the difference between the ACV and the Replacement Cost Value (RCV), which is the total cost of replacing or repairing the roof. In other words, the insurance company initially pays for the depreciated value of the roof and then provides the remainder once the job is done.

In some cases, there may be additional payments if supplements are added to the claim. Elite Roofing & Solar helps homeowners throughout this process, ensuring that all necessary documentation is submitted to the insurance company in a timely manner and that the final payout reflects the full cost of the repairs.

Elite Roofing & Solar also provides flexibility when it comes to payments. They don’t require any upfront payment until materials are delivered to the homeowner’s property, giving homeowners peace of mind during a stressful time.

In the spirit of Halloween, we thought we would share some of our biggest fears as roofers. While it takes a lot to spook us, there are times that even our most experienced roofers have to face their fears while on the job site. Let’s take a look at our biggest fears at your trusted Colorado roofers!

Extreme Slopes

Scaling roofs is simply part of our job here at Elite Roofing & Solar. While the vast majority of the roofs we repair and replace are standard pitch or low slope, we do occasionally encounter an extreme steep slope roof. As highly experienced roofers, it’s nothing we can’t handle, but it certainly leaves our crews feeling more than a little spooked.

Unexpected Severe Weather

As roofers, our ability to be productive is very much weather dependent. Severe weather can hold jobs up and pose safety threats. While we watch weather reports closely, particularly during storm season here in the Rockies, there are times that unexpected weather patterns take our crews by surprise. In these cases, we take measures as quickly as possible to protect our crews as well as your property. One thing is for sure, nothing is quite as frightening as being on a roof when lightning strikes nearby!

Homeowners Climbing on Their Own Roofs

The risk involved in climbing on a roof is extremely high, particularly to those who are inexperience in safety protocol. Hearing from homeowners who have taken it upon themselves to assess their roof damage up close is always scary. Do us a favor and leave the roof inspections to the professionals!

Low Quality Materials

There is nothing worse than completing an inspection on a roof that has only sustained minor damage to find that low quality roofing materials were used when installing the roof. In these cases, we have to recommend a complete replacement when a repair would otherwise would have been an option. Talk about a freight to the homeowner! This is why we only offer the highest quality materials here at Elite Roofing & Solar.

Poor Craftsmanship

Yet another fear of your trusted roofers is poor craftsmanship. We never like to inspect a roof that was installed improperly or lackadaisically. This is again a frightful situation, as we have to deliver bad news to the property owner. Hence why it’s so important to hire a roofing company with a trusted track record in your community who also offers a workmanship warranty.

Jack-o-lanternsHappy Halloween!

On behalf of the entire Elite Roofing & Solar Family, we would like to wish you and your little ghosts and goblins a Happy Halloween! Stay safe out there and remember, if you ever suspect that your roof has sustained damage, leave the inspection to us! At Elite Roofing & Solar, we proud to offer free, no-obligation roofing inspections, so there is no need to take on the scary task of climbing on your roof.

As your trusted local roofers, we are here to help you through every step of the roof repair or replacement process. From initial inspection to interfacing with your insurance company, to completing your repair or replacement, we’ve got you covered!

Here at Elite Roofing & Solar, we love getting the chance to make a homeowner’s vision for their home a reality. For this residential roofing project, we got to work with a lesser-used shade: the Chateau Green shingle from Owens Corning. With the new Chateau Green shingles installed, this lovely brick home now cuts a stunning profile. It’s a perfect example of how a bold choice of shingle color can really make a home pop in all the right ways!

Owens Corning Chateau Green Shingles | Elite Roofing
Elite Roofing & Solar installed this Owens Corning Chateau Green shingle last fall in Denver.

A bold statement with the Chateau Green shingle from Owens Corning

Green might seem an unconventional color for a home’s roof, but that wasn’t always the case. Earlier in the 20th century, green roofs (not to be confused with green roofs!) were popular for many bungalows and cottage-style homes. After falling out of favor, green has re-emerged as a great option for those looking to branch out with their roof’s appearance. The Chateau Green shingle color from Owens Corning is an exceptional example of how green can cut a striking, yet elegant profile on the right home.

Is Owens Corning Chateau Green the right shingle for my home?

The home we roofed certainly looked gorgeous sporting its Chateau Green shingles from Owens Corning. That said, green is a very unique color, and it can look a bit odd if the home’s color palette doesn’t support such a bold shade. So, what goes well with green shingles? Well, you might consider Chateau Green if your home is made of brick or features otherwise brick-like colors, as with the home we worked on. Wood-stained siding also meshes well with Chateau Green. And of course, certain light or neutral colors such as white, pale yellow, and especially gray can look quite lovely when paired with this shade of green. If you’re at a loss, your preferred residential roofing company will be happy to help you pick the right shade for your home!

With Owens Corning, colors stay brilliant for longer

Owens Corning is not the only roofing manufacturer that makes green shingles, of course. However, Owens Corning is well-known for producing shingles that are made to last. Usually, people think of lasting in terms of standing up to damage and not needing repair. But retaining color is important, as well!

One way Owens Corning ensures the longevity of bold shingle colors such as Chateau Green is through their unique StreakGuard Algae Resistance Protection. With this technology, Owens Corning blends copper-lined granules into their color mixes, which inhibits the growth of algae and keeps colors popping.

What shingle color is best for my home?

It might not be the case that Chateau Green or even Owens Corning is the right shingle for your home. And that’s perfectly okay! There’s a wide variety of available colors to suit any home’s color palette and that will provide plenty of curb appeal. So what are some important considerations when picking a shingle color? Here are a few to keep in mind:

  • Colors featured elsewhere in your home, such as siding, trim, and window/door frames
  • Neighborhood ordinances, covenants, or restrictions, which may dictate which colors homes in your neighborhood may use
  • Available shingle colors in your area, as certain shades may need to be shipped from elsewhere and therefore cost more

For more complete guidance, check out our post on roof shingle colors. Or, give our team a call! We’re always happy to help folks choose the perfect shingles for their homes.

Your roofer should pull a roof permit before performing any work on your roof. Here’s why.

At Elite Roofing & Solar, we have blogged about the importance of finding a quality roofing contractor, and some tips for finding someone trustworthy. It is also extremely important that the roofing contractor you choose has pulled a roof permit with the city you live in before beginning construction on your home. Essentially, when a permit is pulled, it protects you as the homeowner in a variety of ways, from understanding that the contractor is licensed and insured to the inspection that will follow the work when it is completed.

Why are roof permits important?

Permits ensure that a 3rd party entity such as the city or town you live in, will perform an inspection of your roof and verify the quality of work performed by the contractor. A permit ensures a city inspector will come to your home, once the contractor states that the work is complete, and they will verify that the installation meets all city codes. City Inspectors are experts and know what exactly to look for to ensure your roof is installed properly.

Keeping records of work performed on your home is important for both future repairs and when selling your home. A permit proves exactly what work was done and when.

Do you need a permit to install roof solar panels in Colorado?

You may be wondering if permitting is required for solar projects as well. The short answer is yes, you will likely need some form of building permit to install solar panels on your home’s roof. The exact requirements vary throughout the state of Colorado, as many counties and cities have their own regulations for solar permitting. However, solar panel installation will typically require an electrical permit and often a roofing permit, as it’s common (and recommended!) to repair or replace a roof immediately before installing a new solar array.

The Permitting Process

The roofing contractor performing the work is responsible for obtaining a permit from the city before work begins. They notify the city once they have completed the work and the city will come and inspect the work once they have been notified that the work has been completed by the contractor.

A failed inspection from the city simply means that one or more elements of the city’s building code has not been met, and the issue must be corrected before the city approves the work completed by the contractor(s).

The average cost of a permit is around $300, but that the cost varies city by city, by size of the job, and what work is being performed.

What does it mean if a roofing contractor doesn’t pull a permit?

In order to get a permit, your roofing contractor must prove that they are licensed with each city, and prove that they are insured. As a homeowner this should be hugely important to you as it protects you should an unpredicted catastrophe occur during your roofing project, such as damage to your home or an injury on your property.

Some roofing contractors don’t pull a permit simply to cut costs, but oftentimes there are more serious implications when a contractor is not pulling a permit. It could mean that your roofing contractor is not registered with the city or town you live in—remember, if they are not registered with your city the contractor has yet to become licensed and prove that they are insured with your city officials.

The biggest takeaway we want you to have is that a roof permit protects both you as the homeowner, and us as the roofing contractor. With a 3rd party (the city) inspecting our work (or any roofing contractor’s work) you can be assured that your roof was properly installed and is within your city’s code.

How do I know if my roofer pulled a permit?

A Denver roof replacement that called on all of our collective roofing expertise!

In roofing, you never know what you’re going to get from project to project. Sometimes you’re faced with a straightforward roof replacement, replacing one shingle roof with another. Other times, though, the roof is composed of several different materials, including CertainTeed Presidential Shake TL shingles, EPDM membrane, and metal roofing!

Our Project Spotlights blog series is our way of sharing unique and interesting roofing projects with our readers. Today’s project certainly falls in that category. Elite Roofing & Solar was tasked with replacing a Denver roof with a very unique construction, but our team was up to the task. Let’s take a look!

Background and clients

For this project, we had the pleasure of working with first-time Elite Roofing & Solar clients. They found Elite Roofing & Solar after searching online and finding our excellent Google reviews. Our clients’ home was located here in Denver. The roof had definitely reached the end of its lifespan and needed to be replaced, so our task for this project was to replace the existing roof with a brand-new one.

The challenges

the porch section of the roof

This roof presented a few unique challenges for our team. For one, the roof was comprised of multiple parts. The main section of the roof was covered with asphalt shingles, but the roof also included a back area, which covered an outdoor patio and was covered with EPDM rubber. We were to replace both sections of the roof, which meant working with multiple different materials for the project. This meant we would need to coordinate both our Residential Crew and Service Technicians for the project.

The right material: CertainTeed Presidential Shake TL shingles

While the patio section of the roof was to be replaced with EPDM, our clients wanted to refresh the look of the rest of their home. They were hoping to find a material that would look great and stand up well against the harsh weather here in Denver, but one that wouldn’t break the bank.

We recommended CertainTeed Presidential Shake TL shingles for the project, as this shingle met each of our client’s needs! This shingle is designed to emulate the unique look of wood shakes, which are a popular and attractive roofing material commonly found in residential roofing applications. This would give the home excellent curb appeal.

In addition, CertainTeed Presidential Shake TL provides industry-leading durability, as it is more fire-resistant than traditional wood shakes and stands up well against impact damage, high winds, and more.

The result: A gorgeous new roof!

With the project mapped out, the Elite Roofing & Solar team pulled a Denver Roofing Permit and set to work! We started by removing the existing roof, then coordinated our teams to begin installing the new roofing materials. Project Manager Phil Harris oversaw this project, and Kaysn Bock helped to determine the best way to install the flat EPDM material and tie it in with the rest of the roof.

In the end, this team project went very smoothly! We were able to complete a brand-new roof for our clients, one that perfectly blends both flat and traditional residential roofing, as well as both style and functionality.

Climate change is no longer a distant concern; it’s a reality affecting cities worldwide, including Denver. In recent years, Denver has seen significant shifts in weather patterns, largely driven by climate change.

As the climate continues to evolve, the city is experiencing more frequent and severe storms, leading to noticeable impacts on homes and buildings, especially roofing. Understanding the link between climate change and roofing damage is crucial for Denver homeowners and businesses to safeguard their properties. In this context, Elite Roofing & Solar offers invaluable services to address storm damage and other weather-related roofing issues.

Denver’s Changing Climate: A Snapshot

Denver, known for its dry, mild climate and proximity to the Rocky Mountains, has seen notable shifts in its weather patterns. The city’s temperature is rising, with summer heatwaves becoming more frequent and intense. Winter snowfall has become more unpredictable, sometimes leading to extremely cold conditions followed by warmer-than-usual spells.

Most significantly, Denver is increasingly prone to extreme weather events such as hailstorms, heavy rain, and high winds—events that have profound implications for roofing and infrastructure.

One major contributor to these changes is the rising global temperature. Warmer air holds more moisture, increasing the likelihood of intense storms. As climate change continues to exacerbate the frequency and severity of these storms, Denver’s residents and businesses must contend with more unpredictable and damaging weather conditions, including the notorious hailstorms the region has become known for.

The Impact of Climate Change on Roofing

For Denver homeowners, these changing weather patterns pose direct challenges, especially for the roofs of their homes. Hailstorms and high winds are particularly concerning, as they can cause substantial roof damage, leaving properties vulnerable to leaks, structural problems, and other issues.

Understanding the specific threats posed by Denver’s evolving climate helps underscore the importance of professional roofing services like those offered by Elite Roofing & Solar.

Hail damage on a roof caused by a severe storm, highlighting the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events due to climate change in Denver, CO

1. Hailstorms: A Frequent Culprit of Roof Damage

Denver is located in a region colloquially known as “Hail Alley,” an area notorious for frequent and severe hailstorms. These storms can occur suddenly, pelting rooftops with chunks of ice ranging in size from tiny pellets to golf balls. Even small hail can cause damage to roofing materials, dislodging shingles, or puncturing tiles. Larger hail can cause even more extensive damage, breaking through protective roofing layers and exposing the underlying structure to moisture.

In the aftermath of a hailstorm, the damage may not always be immediately apparent. Some signs of roof damage, such as missing shingles or dented flashing, are visible to the naked eye. However, other forms of damage, like small punctures or cracks, can be harder to detect but can still lead to significant issues down the line if not addressed.

2. High Winds: Another Hazard Roof repair needed by Elite Roofing & Solar. A roof with visible signs of wear and tear, indicating the need for urgent repairs in Denver, CO

High winds, which often accompany hailstorms or occur independently, also pose a serious threat to roofing systems. Winds can lift and remove shingles, damage flashing, and leave entire sections of a roof exposed to the elements. When wind damage occurs, the integrity of the roof is compromised, potentially leading to leaks, water damage, and the need for costly repairs if not promptly addressed.

The increased frequency of extreme weather events such as these means Denver residents must be proactive in maintaining and inspecting their roofs. Neglecting roof inspections after a major storm could result in costly repairs down the road as minor issues if left untreated, often worsen over time.

How Elite Roofing & Solar Can Help

With the growing impact of climate change on Denver’s weather, it is essential to have a reliable roofing partner to help mitigate the damage caused by these extreme weather events. Elite Roofing & Solar has years of experience dealing with storm damage in the Denver area, offering professional services that include roof inspections, repairs, and replacements. Here’s how they can assist in managing climate-related roofing damage:

  1. Storm Damage Restoration

Storm damage restoration is one of the primary services provided by Elite Roofing & Solar. After a major weather event such as a hailstorm or high-wind event, they offer comprehensive roof inspections to assess the extent of the damage. This inspection is crucial because not all damage is immediately visible. The professionals at Elite Roofing & Solar know what to look for, ensuring that even small issues are identified before they can turn into larger, more expensive problems.

  1. Free Hail Damage Inspections Roof inspection in progress: A roof inspector from Elite Roofing & Solar is assessing the condition of a damaged roof in Denver, CO

Hail damage, while common in Denver, is often overlooked by homeowners until it’s too late. Elite Roofing & Solar provides free hail damage inspections to help homeowners understand the condition of their roofs after a hailstorm. This service is particularly valuable given the short window many insurance companies offer for filing claims. By scheduling a free inspection with Elite Roofing & Solar, homeowners can ensure they meet insurance deadlines and avoid missing out on potential coverage for roof repairs or replacements.

When homeowners suspect hail damage, Elite Roofing & Solar recommends conducting a cursory visual inspection from the ground before calling in professionals. While it’s essential to look for visible signs like fallen shingles or damaged gutters, homeowners should avoid climbing onto their roofs, as this can cause further damage or pose safety risks. Elite Roofing & Solar’s expert inspectors are trained to handle these tasks safely and efficiently, identifying both obvious and subtle signs of damage.

  1. Expertise in Roof Repair and Replacement

Once damage is detected, Elite Roofing & Solar offers expert repair services to restore the roof to its original condition. If the damage is severe, they also provide full roof replacement services. Their team is well-versed in working with various roofing materials, ensuring that homeowners receive tailored solutions that best fit their needs.

Moreover, Elite Roofing & Solar’s storm damage expertise allows them to work closely with insurance companies, helping homeowners navigate the often-complicated process of filing claims. This support can make a significant difference in ensuring that homeowners receive the coverage they’re entitled to, minimizing out-of-pocket expenses for repairs.

Why Roof Maintenance Matters More Than Ever

Given the increasing unpredictability of Denver’s climate, proactive roof maintenance has become more critical than ever. Regular roof inspections and timely repairs can prevent minor issues from escalating into significant problems that require costly solutions.

While it’s impossible to control the weather, Denver residents can take steps to protect their homes by partnering with trusted professionals like Elite Roofing & Solar.

Climate change is reshaping the way we think about home maintenance, and roofs are at the forefront of this shift. Homeowners who invest in regular inspections and timely repairs are better equipped to weather the storms—both literal and figurative—that climate change is bringing to Denver.

Denver’s changing climate presents unique challenges for homeowners, especially when it comes to protecting their roofs from hail, wind, and other extreme weather events.
