Denver Roofers: Did Your Home Sustain Wind Damage?

Most of us will look back on Christmas 2016 and remember it not only for special time spent with loved ones but also for record setting weather conditions. As many of us were making final holiday preparations, meteorologists around the state were tracking a wind storm of gigantic proportions. The storm ripped through the front range downing powerlines and damaging property. Resulting in roughly 50,000 Denver residents losing power on Christmas Day.

High Winds & Roof Damage

Wind gusts were recorded ranging from 68 to 92 mph, leaving a wake of destruction in their path. To combat the issue, Xcel Energy had more than twice their typically number of crews out fixing outages. Some Denver residents did not resume power until the 26th. In addition to downed powerlines, area residents also reported serious property damage.  Strong wind gusts damaged and even tore off roofs in the area, leaving some residents facing devastating destruction.

Fixing Roof Wind Damage in the Winter

Winter precipitation in the Denver area has been sparse in recent months. However just a week after the devastating wind damage ripped through Denver, we saw our first major snowfall of 2017. Snowfall amounts on the Front Range totaled between 4 and 12 inches, overnight on Wednesday, January 4 and Thursday, January 5. For those whose property sustained major damage over the Christmas holiday, the winter precipitation added insult to injury. As we recently discussed in our blog post on when it is too cold to reroof, temperature below 40 degrees are not ideal for replacing a roof. However, when waiting temperatures to rebound, there are measures you can take to protect your property from further damage while reducing energy loss. If you fear that your property recently sustained roof wind damage, it is important to respond quickly.
