When is the best time to replace a roof?

It is considered a general rule of thumb, in the roofing industry, that temperature should be at or above 45-50 degrees when replacing an asphalt roof.  Temperatures at or above this threshold allow seal strips to melt and adhere properly. A process known as thermal sealing, this ensures the longevity of your new roof.

How long does a roof last?

While there are many determining factors in the lifespan of a roof, industry standards are as follows:

  • Asphalt roofs typically last 20 years
  • Wood or laminate shingles last up to 50 years
  • Clay tiles last up to 80 years
  • Slate lasts up to 100 years

If your roof sustains damage from extreme weather including hail, wind and heavy snowfall, the lifespan of your roof can be impacted.

Will insurance cover my roof damage?

Just as no two roofs are the exactly the same, insurance coverage for roof damage can vary widely from one situation to another. If your roof has sustained weather related damage, from hail or high winds, we encourage you to contact us first. In many cases, a small roof repair can be fixed for less than your insurance deductible. Before contacting your insurance company, and beginning the claims process, it might be a good idea to allow one of our technicians to survey your damage and help you determine if you should in fact contact your insurance provider.

If you decide to file a claim, we will walk you through every step of the insurance claim process. Want to learn more? Check out our recent post on the topic.
