Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) is comprised of synthetic rubber which acts as a roofing membrane. EPDM roofs are some of the most durable and longest lasting on the market today. At Elite Roofing we work exclusively with VersiGard® EPDM membranes. Providing superior quality EPDM solutions for more than 5 decades, the VersiGard name is synonymous with excellence in the commercial roofing industry. As a result, Versico offers a 30-year warranty on all EPDM membrane systems. If you are in the market for a commercial roofing solution, that will standup to harsh weather conditions, look no further.
Sustainable, long-lasting building products are revolutionizing the construction industry. Top manufacturers are developing products that conserve natural resources. VersiGard EDPM is one of few membranes on the market with more than 50 years of actual use. Boasting an industry leading UV weather resistance, these membranes exhibit incredible resistance to hail and other extreme environmental conditions. Finally, when compared to alternative commercial roofing membranes, EDPM roofs produce the lowest acid rain, smog and global warming potential. In other words, these products have a minimal carbon footprint while outlasting similar, less durable roofing membranes.
A study completed on behalf of the EPDM Roofing Association (ERA) provided solid, scientific proof of information many in the industry have known for years; that EPDM stands the test of time. The study observed the level of performance of EPDM roofs in the field between 28 and 32 years after installation. Each EPDM roof observed proved to be performing above or just below ASTM minimum properties for today’s newly manufactured 45-mil EPDM membrane. Researchers tested several variables including: thickness, elongation (XD and MD) and factory seam strength. In the end, they found that EPDM commercial roofing systems withstand the effects of harsh weather conditions and can meet or exceed 40 years of field service.
In addition to producing a minimal carbon footprint, EPDM membrane roofs help to reduce energy costs. Black EPDM provides energy saving in cold climates while white EPDM helps to reduce air conditioning costs in warmer environments; yet another compelling reason to choose EPDM roofing in any climate.
Not only is an EPDM membrane highly durable, it is easily repaired when damage is sustained. In fact, it is not uncommon for aging EPDM roofs to be successfully repaired to prolong service life; adding to the sustainability benefits of this popular type of commercial roofing.
In short, the EPDM membrane is a cost effective, environmentally-friendly, long-lasting and easily repairable commercial roofing option. If you would like to learn more about EPDM and the other commercial roofing services we offer here at Elite Roofing, we encourage you to contact us today!
